'•« „ >fl By "ZEKE" BACON The season's record now stands at four won and two lost out of the six starts. Not so bad, but it's going to be a lot better. Didot seel Stringer around nor wis he heard as he ceretinly would have been had he been thera, Maybe he °just didn't want to «s& his old school go down in defeat. The weather held the turnout down and Crystal Lake seemed to be saving their Christmas bonuses for' tonight so the crowd was small and just about the deadest of any tournament gathering <*rer witnesed around these parts. These Old Timers are perking up since the colder weather set in as their scores 'will indicate. Three of the teams had better than 2,500 last week which is Quite ait improvement over tlieer perfbrn»«a<se« #f eaHy thi year. Tonight its Hebron-Huntley and Crystal Lake-Richmond which should bring out a large crowd, but after last night it wouldn't be right to be too positive. Of course, the weather isn't the kind that brings people into the great outdoors unless they really like the game. Woodstock eked out a 19-18 victory over Harvard in another ragged game with Harvard missing enough free throws to have put the game on ice. As it was, Coach Home's lads from the far north seemed to be just not clicking though Woodstock, too, has shown hotter .form than theydkl last night. , McHENRY HEAVIES DOWN CRYSTAL LAKE 28 TO 15 McHenry stepped out and dragged down Crystal Lake's elongated basket ball team for their fourth victory of the season in five starts, 2&-15, in a well-played game that wa9 McHenry's all the way. The Orrmen paddled away to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and stretched it to 12-5 at the half, with Young scoring the Lakers' only field goal, wfhich speaks rather highly of the new defense which Orr has established. At the start of the second half the Lakera drew up to a 12-8 standing, but the McHenry boys came back and matched basket for basket so persistently that the Metcalf crew decided to give up. »With the score 16-11 the McHenry boys counted six times in succession to give them a 24-11 lead that was Certainly mighty safe. The scoring for McHenry was quite even, with Tonyan, Kreutzer and Kinsala getting in their deadly work. The McHenry seconds lofet their game of the season, 21-8. They played a good enough game, but were hampered by the absence of Kramer, who was used as a sua on the firs; team.' Huck is coming along nicely and is showing#the advantage.of his experience so far, but as yet he isn't quite able to cope with the older and more experienced ladsw POMEROY FARM , WINS IN CONTEST Another thing about the MlVIAC volleyball, last week, it was sported that McCracken had picked his team / to meet the K C quintet, but Mac him i self says that he hasn't even expressed his thought as yet, let alone pickj his men. Some things are just taken 1 for granted but the lineup given last week wa* not official, It turns out, - The Pomeroy Farm, estate of Carl Buehler, Barrington, 111., recently won tKe world's fair egg layinjr contest with "Emily" and also has the birds from the second high pen in the contest These birds are being mated to a male whose dam laid 337 eggs and won the American Poultry association cup in 1930. The owners intend building a future flock around this pen and hope to have a limited' number of birds for sale. Friar 2nd, a Berkshire boar, from the Pomeroy Farm, won the "198ft Grand Championship" at the International Livestock show. These animals may be seen at t&e farm at Harrington. ftedi Pace, former Woodstock Jugh star, 'who is now co&ching at South Beloit, camie over to watch the young kid brother ift action and saw him collect severfcl baskets before leaving the game on fouls. Young Red has a lot of size, but he hasn't rer#hed his Ck as yet. Will do good to equal Wg brother's record. started to hurt and Duker went to the showed. From then on the defense cracked and the offense, though functioning quite well, couldht find the hoop o« their cut-in shots. Marengo then Walked away wit), a few lonf pfc&>ea and the game was on ice. LEAGUE STANDING Old Tinners Leagtte--Bidders ,10,- 108; Meyers, 10,059; Hughtes, 9,789; Schaefers, 1>,809. Took in the county to'urnameht at Crystal Lake last night and watched Marengo take McHenry's measure, 28-18, after McHenry had made a great uphill fight to come within one point of the Bunmen at the start q{ the last period. But they forgot their^ defense and Marengo used ft long pasw game effbl*ta£y to pile 1^, a safe lead. , The extreme cold of * Monday ingKt" didn't seem to hamper the turnout for the MMAC volley ball session at the hig-h school. What, with the impend*-' ing game with the K. C. not far in the offing the older fellows are getting in all kinds of practice.
