Your Committee decided to accept said proposal. On May 11th, 1933, the roads In the west and south parts of the "county were inspected. On May 24th, 1888, your Committee went to Harvard, Illinois, to inspect the crushing plant, which was set up ready to crush; same proved satisfactory and a payment of $400.00 was giade oh .iccount, as per the agreement, also $326.01 was paid from the Motor Fuel Tax funds, for sewer pipe, freight on same and for two concrete catch basins, all for Section 5. M. F. T. It was decided that a pair of self loading scrapers could be used to advantage on the grading work, behind the 30 Bates tractor and thus speed up the earth moving work. We, therefore decided to go to Bfrrington, Illinois, and negotiate further in the purchase of the two one and one-quarter (1%) cubic yard Euclid scrapers. On May 26th, 1933, the trip was made and the scrapers demonstrated. Calkins Brothers, the owners, made the price of $600.00 fur the two scrapers. The matter was discussed and It was learned that most of the Towns in this County have caterpillar tractors and graders, but po means of moving dirt lengthwise. And though the County might not have steady work for them, they could be rented to the Towns at a small charge. It was decided to offer $400.00 for the two scrapers, but the offer was not accepted. Upon consideration CalklnP Brothers decided to Include a tractor tandem disc, .almost new, and two heavy road plows. These articles were needed and your Committee decided to make the purchase. An order was drawn for $60.00 to bind the bargain and another order was drawn fqr the sum of £560.Oo and placed in the hunds of the County Superintendent of Highways to be delivered to said Calkin* Brothers upon the receipt of machines purchased.
