I have that the rollicking, frollicking boys!no bodyguard, but may need one soon known as Wildcats would have little if this "So We Hear" bombardment ^ 1 - trouble taking the match. There's no need of prolonging the agony. We might as well tell you that those fair ladies knocked pins in all directions and won all three games. The girls knocked over the grand sum ^illlf^KT^NIITEB °* P'nS w^"e Wildcats (kitl • |||2^^AAAl&r KK tens just now) were tipping over 2471 pins. Sweet bowlers, those girls. -- S * I * H -- * As an added attraction to the lady ;bowlers, Elgin brought up a team of men. They weren't as good as the girls, but good enough to beat the McHenry Brewery team. 4 . - -- S * I • H -- ilcHenry bowlers ha vent 'shown real class this season, but th*e Old Timers came through last week with some pretty classy scores. Ray Page and Jake Schaefel- each turned in 623 series. Nickie Freund was 14 pins over the coveted mark, turning in one 255 gfcme. Tom Wilson and Jim Perkins had single games over 200. That "Chief Clerk" you mentioned is still doing noble service in the "Honest Brothers" store. The boy is there with the goods. Simon Stoffel still maintains that if we could enter Harrison in that Burlington contest, it would be a walkaway. The elder member cf the "Honest Brothers" hooked a new trailer to his automobile a few days ago «nd headed for the sunshine and flowers of California. Little Glenny still squawks if his name isn't in the column every week. He comes through with the cigars without much argument when he gets mention, though, (He'd better or we'll swing all this column advertising over io Tom Bolger.) Alderman Buss, the west side orator, has been wondering what Glenny does to get all the publicity, but he hasn't made an offer. Guess we'll quit this drug store advertising and go in for big game Maybe ifre can get these car dealers to thinking this is a great spQt for publicity. Guess this will be enough news on the situation for this time, Doc. "Hello," to the family, and write away right away. -- S • I • H -- - The city basketball leaague swung into action Tuesday night at the high school gym. We're afraid some of the older boys will have to cut down on the pork chops and do some road work to get in shape, but they have a lot of fun. -- S * I * H -- We were talking things over with Freddie Meyers and Glenn Anderson about the basketball situation in .McHenry. We feel that McHenry has plenty of material to form a high class town team. In fact, form two teams, first and second. Some of our best material is outside the league. These fellows could be combined with the cream of the league crop to give McHenry the kind of a team that will draw. The sports world loves a winner. I Showed it to Editor "Mose" and he said, "Print it just as it is. No cutiting." Orders from the boss must be | carried out. Here it is: ; Sioux Falls, S. D., December 6,1936. Dear Earli It seems the winter indoor sport' | has s,tarted with new fervor in Mc- j I Henry by the reports in the last few j ^copies of The/ Plaindealer which Ij i have received and believe me I enjoy i I reading about it and only wish now j ' that someone would start another col- j umn which would give the dope be- J ! tween the lines from the two hot spots jof information in said Great City, un-, censored, because unless one could get this information in the exact word it would spoil the effect. I'm writing this to you, Earl, not as contributor to your column, but as suggestion for the center of the page of Ifce Plaindealer' where the two columns appear. I think the quality of the paper might have to be improved so as to include some asbestos or the page might fall apart. 1 will say, I don't like any column to be anonymous, therefore my letter is addressed to you to uSe as you see fit. It would appear that the conductor of the column, "So We Hear" must be one of those individuals who can't take it or you have acquired a bodyguard since I left McHenry. It is nevertheless encouraging tov see two bitter groups as the "Over the Checkers" and the other side of town, joining in one common cause, since the whole world is talking of war and marriage. By the way, Earl, are congratulations in order? If so, here's luck from the Hess family. What is the most important topic of conversation at the "Honest Brothers" while waiting for the evening Rattler with the Chicago papers? I sure miss that round table discussion of the world and local facts, especially the latter, and often wish I could be in on them, particularly, now since the chief clerk has been recognized nationally as was shown I believe at the exhibit during the Centennial. There are many other topics in the two columns that interest me very much, but I will write again some time, I hope, after this and will closc saying we are pretty well settled in our new home and like it.
