In order to meet the State alignment1 rules it was necessary to put In the twentyfour (24) foot roadway bridge, tight up against the north road line and four (4> feet higher than the old road. In order to hnve room for drainage ditchea and properly till the approaches to a safe condition, additional right-of-way is necessary and thousands of yards of filling will be needed to raise and-'Widen the road. Most of the filling can be secured out of a proposed large ditch along the south side of the road. The overflow conditions have been very bad in this vicinity for many years. On account of the large exi*>nse Involved we decided to recommend that about eightv-elght one-hundredths (.88) of a mile of this road be improved out ot the Motor Fuel Tax funds Three or four culverts of about 20 feet by 5 feet capacity are also recommended. Therefore we Instructed the County Superintendent of Highways to prepare the required resolution for the completion of said improvement and we recom mend that it be passed by this Board and that the right-of-way be assured as soon as possible. Word was received from Arno Kolls of the WPA departmemnt that they wish to start the two projects heretofore approved by this Board: oi4e for County wide widening of culvert* and narrow grades, and one for grading and gravelling on the Fox Farm road west of Woodstock. The County will have to furnish several trucks and we decided that it would be best to turn over three of our two-vard trucks for this work and buy two large trucks for general work and MFT work. The County has one four cubic yard capacity Mack truck that has proven very satisfactorily. used with our mechanical loaders. One driver with the four yard truck hauls as much as two drivers, with two small trucks. We have also noticed that contractors with large trucks bid a lower price per cubic ward for hauling than those with small trucks. "We therefore recommend that this Committee be empowered to buy two fouryard capacity trucks at about $3100.00 each for the Countv. payable out of the County Highway Tax fund. They will be used mostly on MFT work and tlte rental from the MFT fund will eventually go far towards paying for Same. Two of tlie motor patrol outfits are about worn out, one being the old Bates tractor, which Is now broken down and the other a Wehr motor grader. They have seen about ten years of service and ought to be replaced. We therefore decided to recommend that this Committee purchase for McHenry County, two new rubber tlrvd tractors and one multiple blade maintalner out of the Countv Highway funds. The 'maintafner that has been puled by the old Bates tractor is in good running order. These new tractors are very fast and we would be able to increase the mileage taken care of over that mileage covered by the old machines and thus we could eliminate one or two horse drawn patrols and make a saving in cost The cost of the two tractors and one maintalner would be about $3500.00.
