Car broke down--no taxi--no phone, wee sma' hours of the morn ing-- Over 130 Scouts and Scouters from various towns in Boone and McHenry counties mobilized at 2:00 p. m. last Saturday on the high school grounds at Woodstock in a practice disaster service rally. Troop 108» sponsored by the Congregational church of Crystal Lake won the County American Legion Rally Trophy. Definite problems were assigned the Scouts based upon the assumed emergency. As lines of communication were assumed down the Scouts set up lines of communication by signal stations and by the use of Scouts' pace. Mr. Stock of Woodstock acted as short wave radio operator located in the court house. Messages went both ways. Injuries were reported from destroyed buildings, etc. Scouts were assigned certain patients. First aid was applied and the patients actually carried to the hospital grounds. The entire project was planned with the idea of portraying the importance of Scout training in time of local emergency, and to emphasize Scout service in time of need. Scouts and adults then moved to the high school auditorium for the Court of Honor. Troop 162 of McHenry was recognized with an A rating for their participation in the rally. Personal awards which were merited members of Troop 162, McHenry, were: Glenn Peterson, Jr., Eagle Scout Bronze Palm; Dean McCracken, Wood Carving merit badge; Thomas Lawson, Camping, Civics and Bifd Study merit badges. Coach Stuessy's basketball team of St. Mary's, Woodstock, continued their victory march at the expense of the local high school squad on McHenry's floor Tuesday night, winning a lopsided game, 39 to 23. The game was hard-fought throughout, each team losing two men on fouls. McHenry's team Showed Improvement in team play, but lacked scoring punch. Too many shots went wild. Kuppe led the victory parade for the Woodstock crew with fi/teen points. Cooney followed with nine points before turning the job over to an able sub, Conway, who dropped in three baskets to keep up the scoring from that forward spot. Two long shots in the Anal quarter added to four free throw markers gave Stilling eight points for the scoring lead. The visiting second team took an exciting game from the local boys when McHenry's fourtb pa»e4 sgurt fell short, 24 to 20. . ^ \ Brda, 433; Tonyan, 513; Schlosser, 477; Smith, 490. Total--2298. Eight scoots from Troop 162 went to the Rally. Troop 162 is the McHenry troop. Our meeting Monday night was, opened by Robert Weideman. After the opening Mr. Schoenholtz called the roll. There were eighteen Scouts present. Scoutmaster . Schoenholtz then made an individual inspection of ^ petrols. Next Monday night there will be a Board of Review and Mr. Schoenholtz expects three merit badges from each First Class Scout. There will be a Christmas grab bag pr throw bag next Monday, the 16th. Each Scout is supposed to bring a useful gift costing from ten to twenty- five cents. Only Scouts that put in presents make tak£ out presents. Don't forget Scouts, do your Christmas good turn, After making these announcements Scoutmaster Schoenholtz asked Thomas Lawson, Donald Schaefer, Glen Peterson and Robert Weideman to teach Scouts certain merit badges. T. L. had First Aid; G. P., Public Health; D. S.. Bird Study, and R. W., Personal Health. After the' classes were finished Scoutmaster Schoenholtz led us in a new song called "Nellie.' ' It was a Very funny song. We then sang other songs and Paul Bonslett sang a solo. We were quite surprised at him. ' Don't forget the Board of Review and the Christmas affair! SCOUT ADOLPH WEIDEMAN.
