Langley Bennett, who has seen many months of fighting in the southwest Pacific and has suffered wounds from his many encounters with the Japs, has received his medical discharge from the service and is back with us to stay. News of his homecoming was most joyfully received by all the residents of McCullom Lake. We join them with the greetings of Welcome Home, Sgt. Langley Bennett! Charles Brocken hoped to surrlse his moiher when he arrived j here from Camp Bowie, Texas, on a ' 14-day leave, but he suffered a dis- ! appointment as his Mom was visiting ; relatives in Oconomowoc, Wis., over | the holidays. With the kind assist- J ance of Mrs. Elmo McKim, "Chuck" ' talked to her by phone, then, he ; hurriedly arranged for transportation to join her. M. 3/c Arthur Olsen arrived last Tuesday to spend his 10-day leave with his lovely wife, Shirley, and daughter/ Karen, at the home of Mr. $nd Mrs. Theo. Olsen, their parents. Sailor Olsen is stationed aboard an L. S. M. boat at Norfolk, Va., and expects to see service over- Seas, in the near future. A. M. M. 3/c Allan McKim phoned his parents by lonp distance from Norfolk, Va.; on Thanksgiving morning, extending his greetings and also to tell them that he received letters, from Corp. Dave Boyle and F. I. C. Iffichard Nimtz. S. 1/c Stephan Huska, aboard an L. S. M. boat, is back in California from a cruise in Pacific waters. He expects to remain there for the next few weeks. Greetings from the folks back home, "Steve." Lieut. John Boyle will be pleasantly surprised if Pfc. "Chuck" Brocken is able to locate him when he returns to camp on Dec. 6. Lieut Boyle of the army air corps, is also stationed in Texas, after many months of service overseas and numerous bombing missions over Germanyi Where he was thrice shot down and taken prisoner but managed to escape to England each time. Wish we could be in on this reunion of old chums. Corp. T. Joseph Woods, of Army Medical Corps, is seeing action some- : where in France, according to latest reports. He is a brother of Mrs. A. J. Thompson of McCullom Lake. A. M. M. 2/c George Reid. who j last week spent his short leave with h s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Reid, left a trail of fluttering feminine hearts in his wake when he left for , camp on the east coast on Monday. ' Six of the local beauties were up with the dawn, each hoping to be first in line to kiss this handsome sailor goodbye. The result was a mad scramble. Wanda Crick is still walking around in a daze. She confessed that this was the first time she has been kissed--by a sailor i and, we quote Wanda "Wow!" (un quote.) Pfc. Duane Barbefr of the Army Air Forces is now 'flying in Indin and loves the climate and the cheap labor there. * He manages to have his shoes shined six times a day, seven days a week, by the native boys for just 30c in American money; , his week's laundry done for three cigarettes. S„ Joseph Crick, with the Army Tank Corps, somewhere inside Germany, reports that he enjoys daily concerts of transcribed American dance music which he plays on a phonograph captured from the Germans. Those who enjoyed the superbly delicious turkey dinner, prepared by Mrs. McDonald, were Mr. and Mrs. C. Kennenberg and family, of Richmond, Mr. and Mrs. P. Cunningham and family, Mr. and Mrs. M. Barney tells us that their granddaughter, Betty, has fully recovered from the major operation on her neck and ia now attending school. The McCullom Lake boys asked to use this medium to express their thanks to Rosie Matzat for the swell time they had at her recent party. Everything happens to the 'O'Connors. It's a boy this time, born Sunday at 8:34 p. m. at the Woodstock hospital, mother doing nicely and so are Joheph, Jr., and Marie Patricia, who are anxiously waiting to greet their new brother. Pop O'Connor is busy stocking up on nursing bottles arid sundry equipment for the new arrival. Congratulations, folks. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Schmidt, those two grand people on Fountain Lane, celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary last Sunday.
