What the California Chamber j Lee Stawdo, ably assisted by Barof Commerce Wtm't do to us when we ; ney Graff, George Baumbeck and By "Yardstick" Greetings, Folks: It's a grand and glorious feeling we get every time one of our boys returns from the service. Last Sunday we experienced that same pleasant sensation when we greeted Alan McKim, that handsome son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmo McKim, when he arrived home after receiving his final discharge from service in the navy. Alan was discharged Saturday morning at Camp Shelton, Va., and grabbed the first plane out from there, arriving in Chicago at 8 a. m. He was home in time to enjoy a hearty breakfast on Sunday morning I with his Mom and Pop. Down goes another check mark on our long list of McCullom Lake heroes. | It has always been our prayer to have all of our boys return safely but the good Lord hath decreed otherwise. There are two names on our list that shall forever remain unchecked. They are the names of Yl/c James Bailey and Pl/c Jaek Feiter, through whose heroic deeds and final supreme sacrifice they have made it possible for us to enjoy a peaceful world and we may all loOk forward to a happy future. We' are happy to report that the A. P. Freund A Son firm will soon be putting the finishing touches to the beach improvement project. It was a big job, well planned and one that will benefit every resident of our community. President Harry Lock and the directors of the Property Owners Assn ate responsible for the planning and financing of this giant undertaking. Just another reason why McCullom Lake is deserving of the title of "The Best Place On Earth." We all know that all food ration ing is out and by this time we should also know that those two eatin brothers, Hank and Frank Schmaus, were also out. By out we mean that they drove from Chicago over the weekeiyl, this time with reinforcements in the persons of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Schmaus of the same metropolis. In exactly sixteen seconds after alighting from their car, Hank and Frank had the skillet on the fire, then off with the shutters on their windows and up with the sash. Soon after these maneuvers the windows in every house on Fountain Lane were up, doors were opened' wide BO that the occupants could enjoy to the fullest the pleasant aromas [of frying steaks and onions. Where these guys get the stuff we don't know but we must say that they are most generous with the smell of it. Tony Freund, our ex-neighbor and k tal Iking over old times.
