We stayed on ti*e jvaad purely by instinct and when wa came to the turnoff from 120, five tries convinced us that the road was not for us, and we circled McHenry and crept home the back way. Ill bet that comedian, Joe E. mance, bat we are probably among only a few who actually risked their lives to sea his show. Of course we didn't see "Harvey," but then, neither has anyone else. The newly organised Choral club of McHenry has many Wonder Lake members. Among those who have bean enjoying tha group singing are Virginia Monteleone, Dells Chenev and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lambert. The first recital is planned for spring. On Saturday evening a great surprise was in store for the Walter Frosts. Young Wally came home-- and well again. Wally has been corfined for several weeks in Hfries hospital with rheumatic fever. for Harrison Mrs. Mabel Sartwell of Wonder Center was one of the eighteen members of the ARC Girl's bowling league to be entertained at dinner last week in the home of Mrs. Martha Kohl, Woodstock. For the "Is My Slip Showing" department I confess that last week when listing the hostess for Norma Davis Porter's shower, I said that "Lil Druml" was one of the three who sponsored the party. It was "Lil McMahon," to whom I offer abject apologies. After all her work, too. John Carbon, recently discharged vetersn of the armed forces, and sou of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Carbon of Shore Hills was married on Jan. 25, to Connie Gorano of Chicago. The ceremony, which took place in Chicago was also attended by Mr. aiid Mrs. Ralph Carbon, of Shore Hills. The young couple plan to reside in Wonder Lake. Winter Weather It was amuaing to collie which belongs to the Franx family in Indian Ridge coverting around the Handy Pantry tha other very cold morning loving* ly clad in a small undershirt Sh# looked warm! During the bliuard and the subsequent cold weather, I have been approached by several parties, from both Wonder Lake and McCullora Lake, who regularly commute on the WAF lines, to be sure and give the bos drivers credit for their perseverance in keeping these buses on schedule against almost superhuman odds. My vote goes to the lad who brought through that oil job last week and who almost froze his hands in so doing. This tutw ticular bus is known to the regulars as 4 Operation Iceberg.** Point had the fisfortune to slip and fall dowji the hill near her honr>. No bones were broken, but most o)f them were severely bruised, and she was confined to her bed over the weekend. One thing about this wre weather is the companionship anw the brotherhood of man that it foeters. Last Thursday morning, L. W Scott of Indian Smm. ririvin* hi well known "friendin need, etc.," when he crammed six--I SIX men into the coupe and made dash from McHenry (no train) to Woodstock. One of the passen» gers told me that that coupe realli ! can do all the things that its man. ufacturer claims for it, and the* some, as it tore through the dee# magical coupe was entering Wood* stock, the train they had intended boarding was pulling out but frantic waving by the six potential passengers must have softened the engi* neer'js heart--he stopped the train, all of our six got to their respective offices. (I wonder, though, if they weren't too tiied to work?) 1 A gal I know was complaining tha other day that a woman she recently i |met is a bore. "Why?" I inquired,,' , "Well.
