This was followed by talks by members of the high school public speaking class, under the supervision of C. H. Duker. The speakers and their subjects were as follows: Dolores Vales, "Artificial Rain," Kurt Voss, "St. Elmo's Fires;" John Mercure, "The Wolf;" Louanne Bauer, "Prevention of War;" Adelle Krueger, "Personalities;" and Marjorie Thomas, "Women In Crime." The next meeting of the club will be held on Dec. 12, with Mrs. Walter Hopkins in charge. This will be a Christmas party. Holy Name Stages * Annual Feather Party On Sunday evening, Nov. 23, the Holy Name society of St. Mary's parish will hold its annual Thanks- . giving feather party, assisted in the j planning and operation of the event j bv the Christian Mothers and Altar : Society. Th* feather party is a traditional , affair in McHenry prepartory to J Thanksgiving Day. An abundant ' quantity of luscious turkeys, chickens and ducks have been obtained and will be cleaned and dressed for the big: night. The committee promises the usual evening of good, family entertainment ana extends a cordial invitation to all to attend the party. Members of the general committee include Fred Meyers, general chairman; William H. Althoff, games; George J. Freund, refreshments; Victor Miller, hall arrangements; and Helen Weber, lunch. Miss Grace Bolger Honored At Shower Miss Grace Bolger ana honored gue&t at a can and gadget shower held last Sunday at the home of her great aunt, Miss Kathryn Mc- Laugiin. She was ably assisted by Mrs. James Doherty and Mrs. Julie Kralowetz and by two nieces, Mrs. D. A. Powers of Crystal Lakie and Miss Marjorie Murray of Geneva. < Miss Bolger was the recipient of sixty-five cans of preserves, jams and jellies and a variety of other useful items. _ The afternoon was spent in enjoying a "can contest," with the guest of honor winning first prize. Second prizes were merited by Mrs. Therese Conway and Miss Alice Gaulke, Miss Bolger was also the lucky winner of a special prize, a dresser scarf. j At the close of the evening a delicious lunch was served by the! hostess. | Present to enjoy the afternoon were Mrs. Clarence Anglese, Grace, Ann, Margaret and Rita Bolger, Mrs. John Bolger, Mrs. Paul Doherty, Mrs. Thomas Doherty, Mrs. William F. The church was attractively decorated with bouquets of moms, while fi--t were placed at intervals on both sides of the center isle. The lovely bride, given in nlarriage by her brother, Arthur, wore a white satin wedding gown, with high neck and long pointed sleeves, trimmed with lace. Sht had a l«nr train and fingertip veil, the latter held in place by a headpiece of satin petals. Her bridal bouquet consisted of calla lillies. (Following the service, the bride uinewi areas ana a mawning head placed a bouquet of white mums at band. She carried a bouquet of the Blessed Mother's altar, dirine 'which time several of her friends sang "The Rosary." Miss Eleanor Marcella, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor, attired in a green taffeta dress, ballerina style, with choker and headpiece of the same material. She carried fuchsia colored mums. The Misses Marcia and Gladys Rostin, twin cousins, acted as bridesmaids, wearing fuchsia colored taffeta dresses of the same style, with matching headpieces. They carried bouquets of niums of the same color. The charming little flower girl was Marcia Wiett, who chose a pink satin dress with matching ballet slippers and carried a basket of pink mums. Dr. Jerome W. Justen of Momence, 111., brother of the groom, served as best man, and Richard Freund of McHenry and Dr. Robert Loescher of Chicago, close friends, were ushers. Mrs. Domek wore for her daughter's wedding a black dress, pink trimmed, black accessories and a corsage of orchids. Mrs. Justen wore a dress and hat of gray, with brown accessories, and a corsage of orchids. A wedding breakfast was served at 1 o'clock to 100 guests at the Tally-Ho in Park Ridge. Later open house was held at the South Park Field House. The bride is a graduate of Lucy Flower high school and has been employed in the bookkeeping department of,, a large Chicago concern. The groom is a graduate of the local high schol and attended St. Ambiosc college at Davenport. Iowa, for his pre-dental work. He was graduated from Loyola University School of Dentistry, after which he served thirty-nine months in the army dental corps, one year being spent in the European theatre. Following. the ceremony, a reception was held in the Grace Lutheran church parlors, which were attractively decorated in yellow and •white. The bride attended the McHenry schools and has been employed at the Woodstock Grill. Mr. Schroeder attended the Crystal Lake schools and is at present employed on his mother's farm on Country Club road, where the couple will reside. AUXILIARY NOTBl I .During the next few weeks the McHenry unit of "the American Legion Auxiliary is conducting an intensive membership campaign, according to Mrs. Jack Smith, membership chairman. All mothers, wives, sis- 4ers and daughters of World War II Veterans who are members of the American Legion are especially invited to become members of the auxiliary. While the chief program of the organization is service to the disabled men of World Wars I and II and their families, the auxiliary also includes among its interests, Americanism, national defense, community service, Pan-American junior activities, Illini girls state, the veterans' craft shop, training of volunteer hospital -workers and music. This broad program offers a special interest to every woman, and with the large increase in the American Legion membership it is expected that the 795 units in Illinois will reach a membership of over 80,000 this year. At the regular meeting of the local American Legion auxiliaiy on Wednesday evening, Nov. 12, <_j. H. Duker presented members of his public speaking class. The principal topic of discussion was "Should Congress Enact the Universal Military Training Law?" Two more books are to added to the local library, dedicated to the unit's past presidents, Mrs. Kate Weber and Mrs. William Green. A donation of $5 was voted for the Christmas gift shop. The unit is collecting old metal eye glass frames. These are sold and the proceeds added to the transportation fund at department headquarters. Veterans and families unable to pay for a visit to a' critically ill member are given this aid. Mrs. William Green of 206 Court street will accept these frames.
