Last week we stated that the American Legion picnic for carnival workers and their families woufd* be held August 15. That was wrong. It will be held next Sunjjgy, August 22. We think the correction was noised around pretty well before last Sunday. Anyhow it was no picnic for us. MURPHY ATO MILLER PITCH DOUBLE WIN * OVER DUNDEE NINE 1 The McHenry Shamrocks continued to play like champions as they whipped Dundee in both games or a double-header here last Sunday. Murphy pitched the first game and missed a shut-out through a fielding lapse in the ninth. "Sonny" Miller pitched the second game and allowed only four hits in a 12 to, 1 win. Schuldt, the fellow who beat Johnsburg and held Algonquin to 1 hit recently, was Miller's opponent on the mound. Schuldt has plenty of stuff, but the Shamrocks were in a hitting mood. "Willo" McCulla had a field day, banging out 3 for & in the game, including a triple. second game he whacked singles, a double and triple in trips to the plate. mmmm. , -y. v, n.5^ V«... 5 'I t , MCHENRY PLAINDEALER nfi im !(»'• v4- « I, T""** MUEiHtr tun) J0HNS6URG IN TIE FOR FUST • First Four Teams g. Here's how; _ | Bases full, two out, three and two on the hitter. The base-runners are off with the pitch, which is a fourth ball, forcing all runners to advance one base. The runner who had been on third started to walk in, but the runner who had been on second rounded third at high speed Instead of pulling up there. The catcher whipped the ball to third and the runner was tagged out before he could get back. He was tagged be- s fore the runner who had. been on j third had time to touch the plate,! but since he (the runner on third) i was automatically forced to take another base, his run counted even! though he did not touch the plate until after his teammate had been tagged out for foolishly overrunning third base. •Lest Dutchman' The Lost Dutchman gold mine at Score by Innings: Hebron ..... 400 100 020-- 7. The question- is this: "Did the New York Yankees lose three games in one day this year?" Strangely enough, the answer is yes, although it's tricky. On June 12' of this year the Yankees were beaten three times by the Cleveland Indians. The game of the night before did not terminate until 12:22 a. m., with Cleveland the winner by 10-8. That made one defeat on June 12, and that afternoon the Indians won a doubleheader from the world's champions to make it three defeats ia one day. It's a trick of course, but it also happens to be technically correct that the Yanks did lose three games in one day.
