It turned out to be Buck Blake. He wasnt going fast. It was Just that he had something else en his mind at that particular moment. Buck's really one of the nicest fellows I've ever known. But, sometimes he gets to day-dreaming on the road. He sort of gets a "blind spot" to what's going on about him! Now, lots of normally consider-* ate folks have their "blind spots."! It coald be anything from dreaming while driving a car to' humming out loud at the movies. From when I sit, ifs mighty important to be on guard against your own "blind spots." The other fellow has a right to his "share of the road," too--whether it's having a taste for a temperate glass of sparkling beer or a desire to lis -j ten to some classical music if he wants to. Are electric :ards and plugs in good repair? there handrails for your stairways? Are windows opened fbr ventilation securely screened? When using a sharp knife, do you always cut away from you? ' • Gopher Btate For almost a century Minnesota has been known as the "Gopher State." The cognomen was the indirect result of the $5,000,000 bond issue for the construction of railroads in 1857, according to Judge Charles E. Flandrau in his "History of Minnesota and Tales of the Frontier." Although there does not seem to be any logical relation between the two, it was actually a cartoon ridiculing the proposed bond issue that caused the "gopher" nickname to be given the state. * m NemsBesi te Galls & Mormoni: raised a monument si Salt Lake City to the gulls which came in answer to their prayers for an end to a grasshopper scourge.- Subdcribe for The Plaindealer.
