Guests were Mr. Gregor, chairman for the "Gifts For Yanks" campaign; Past Commander William Green a°nd Post Adjutant Bob Ki inn. Mr. Gregor stated that the drive for "Gifts for the Yanks" has started and he asked the full co-operation from the Auxiliary and the community. The gifts donated go to hospitals for veterans from World War I and II. Christmas is* a day of cheer, peace and good will on earth. The . Auxiliary asked that we not forget these men who are so far away from home, family and friends who fought for our peace and good will on earth by bringing them a little cheer into the hospital on Christmas morning and letting them know that we have not forgotten. Mrs. Lillian Miller, child wel-1 fare chairman, stated that there is a needy family in our own community who would greatly appreciate helpr especially winter garments for five girls. sizes 1, 2. 4, G, and 10. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting. ;k Dr. Freund Attended' Optometric Meeting ^ Following dinner at the Woodstock Elk's Club last week, the members of the McHenry County Optometric Society adjourned to their lecture 4oom to hear Dr. Roland I. Prltlkin, prominent ophthalmologist of Rockford, who was the principal speaker of the evening. Dr. Pritikih plotted the course of eye surgery from primative times to the present day. To accent the pathetic conditions in backward countries he showed movies taken during his stay at a native hospital, In India. Dr. Pritikin's associate, Dr. Dushen, also described the experiments that they are conducting in Rockford pertaining to auriomiacin and other new drugs and their value in the treatment of eye diseases. Among those present was Dr. Henry Freund of McHenry, who joined enthusiastically in the discussion. The next meeting will be held on the fourth Friday evening in January. COMING EVENTS I 10 ft. Long before the appointed hour of opening, the hall was filled with members and visitors. The chapter room was very beautifully decorated with baskets of white mums, palms and eucalyptus branches. These lovely decorations were gifts to the incoming worthy matron, Mildred Howorka, from her sister, Mrs. Cecelia Grabig, of Chicago. The installing officers for the evening were escorted into the chapter room by Past Patrons George Johnson. Robert Thompson and Milton Smith. They were Arlene Pearson, past matron of McHenry chapter, installing officer; Ethel Holly, past matron of McHenry chapter, installing chaplai- i; Irene Buske, grand representative of Oklahoma in Illinois, installing marshal; Mable Johnson, past matron of McHenry; chapter, installing org'anist; William Rochelle, member of McHenry chapter^ color bearer. As the worthy matron knelt at the altar to assume the obligations of her office, those present were impressed by the beauty as well as the solemnity of the occasion. Lovely was the song which was sung to her at the time by her daughter, Louanne. AH she was escorted to the East, the newly installed worthy matron was presented with a gorgeous bouquet of red roses. Herbert Howorka, worthy patron- elect, was next presented for installation and as he stood at the altar was also greeted with a song by his daughter. One by one, each officer was installed in his or her station, pledging themselves to the work of the year. Each star point was presented with a basket of flowers appropriate to her station and the worthy matron was presented a vase -of flowers, representing the colors of the five points of the star. After the installation, Frances Vycital was introduced as the mistress of ceremonies and she iu turn, called on the worthy matrons, worthy patrons and installing officer for a few remarks aid also presented the junior worthy matron, Elsie Reiker, with her past matron's jeWel. Chauncey Harrison presented the junior worthy patron, George Reiker, with his jewel, after which the past matron and worthy patron were escorted to the altar to sign the bible. Lena Peterson of Richmond chapter will serve as instructress for the year. A musical program was presented by Louanne Howork and Warren Jones, their numbers being well received by the large nudience. At the close of the evening, refreshments were served In the 'beautifully decorated dining room. Mrs. Grabig and Mrs. Katfe had cha'-^w >f the floral arrangements ind also the gifts. Thin: another year in the history of the McHenry chapter, O.E.S., begins. Members feel sure the chapter in in competent hands and look forward to a very happy and prosperous year. { in a quiet but pretty ceremony performed at St. Heding's Mission church in "Chicago on Wednesday evening, No\ 23, Miss Mary Ann Kosiba became the bride of Mr. Paul Steller. The attractive bride wore a white satin dress .trimmed with French lace, and a French illusion veil. She carried a white prayer book with streamers and small red rosei?. Her father, Anton Kosiba, gave his daughter in marriage. Maid of honor was the bride's niece and also her godchild. Miss Arleen Strazyk, and bridesmaids were her sister, Harriet Zaye and the groom's sister, Berniece Wplfgoam. Mias Starzyk was attired in a peacock blue satin, while the bridesmaid wore fawn-colored satin and carried rust mums. Serving as be3t man was her brother, Casimir Kosiba, and the groomsman was hes brother, Barney Steller. A reception followed the ceremony In Stella hall at 6:30 o'clock, with a largp group of relatives a'nd friends in attendance. The couple left later to spend their honeymoon at Wonder Lake, where the bride's parents reside part of the year.
