V Pltie Schaefer, A1 Blake, Charlie Brflftv Fred Rogers, Paul Gerasch, and Gus Freund made up the party group that presented A1 with a box of cigars a.id good wishes. Out came a deck of cards for a lltfl» sociability and, befose the evfejiing was over,. the boys presented A1 with a much larger gift than planned. ; The boys can't wait for A1 to return to these shores. , • ^11 we hear is basketball on all sl($ea, but baseball is just around the corner. Manager Harold Fretmd, of the McHenrv Merchants, has asked us to announce that he and his coaches will meet with players aext Thursday night, Mutch 2, at the City Hall. Harold has a big job on his hands in building up a team, but has a couple of able coaches to help. Bill Kreutzer, who has been around the diamond a long time-, will be out there helping the young fellows get started. Dick Jager, another experienced baseball man, has also agreed to step into a coach's job. There is a possibility of a third coach, but definite information hasn't been given; to us at this writing. Manager Freund has quite a few players ready and anxious to play ball, but thinks there may be good ball players'In this area who Are not connected with any team. So--it seems that local baseball is shaping up for another big season. With the Shamrocks as defending champions and the Merchants as a new member of the county league, McHeary fans should have a lot of interesting baseball just as soon as the sun g^s ja little higher. Put; this basketball--Cannons to right of them. Cannons to* left of them-- The District Tournament <nn this week;in MaryX gym ,»t Woodstock. * , McHenry doesn't play in the district meet. Nope. We run smack ftito Elgin next Tuesday night in tile Regional. t. We asked Coach "Mac" who he thought we'd meet in the second game of the Regional. He just grinned. But, McHenry has an important game coming up this - week. The Warriors meet the Blue Streaks of Woodstock High at Woodstock Saturday night. v- The game was originally set for Friday night, but changed to Saturday since the finals of the district meet will be played Friday Woodstock beat our Warriors here a few weeks ago. Now, boys, don't let that happen again! Although it's foxy to play up the tmderdog role in sports, we really think the Warriors will win Saturday night. We'll be there watching. So will a lot of other McHenry sports fans. BOWIIND NOTES • ,/J--. Bwrjw<fc» •* • Nxjer*-- : - "Obrrk!®, 1; Old Bridge, i.' ' Sayder. It has been estimated that t per cent of school children of the United States have heart disease as a result of the rhei^matic condition.
