Jack Sturdy was a star second baseman with top Cardinal farm teams' including Rochester and Sacramento until he had to retire in 1945 due to a sore arm. He then signed on with the Cardinals as a scout and now works the annual summer tryout circuit with the Red Birds. George Staten is new on the circuit this year, but has coached baseball for over ten years at John Burroughs High School in St. Louis, where he has had the best of opportunity to look at young baseball talent. He also was a star baseball player while attending Ohio Wesley an College. The workouts will start at 11:00 a.m. under the able supervision of these scouts. All aspirant^ are asked to bring their own gloves and shoes, and uniforms if they have them, as the Cardinals do not furnish this equipment.
