The Special Committee In charge of the repair of the Gates Bridge in Nunda Township, or the construction of a new bridge, presented the following report and recommendations. to-wit: Mr. Chairman and Gentlemen of the Board of Supervisors, McHenry County Illinois: ' Your Committee to whom was referred the matter of the Gates Bridge near Terra Cotta in Section 22, Town of Nsnda. In said County beg leave to submit the following report on the matters before them. That we met at the site of said bridge on the 24th day of February, 1951. together with the County Superintendent of Highways, the Highway Commissioner and the Supervisor of the Town of Nunda. The bridge was a concrete arch on field stone walls 14 foot span and 12 feet high. The concrete arch is crooked and settling and may soon fail. Th«0 wails are in bad shape and are being undermined. The roadway width was only 14.5 feet. We decided that a new structure was necessary and that the matter was an emergency one. We hereby recommend that the prayer of the petition be granted. We further recommend that 2-8 foot diameter galvanized corrugated metal pipes each about 50 feet long be Installed together with rip-rap and concrete protection of the embankment. This would save between 1 and 2 thousand dollars over a concrete structure. If the pipes are ordered now while they are still available, they could be installed within the next month or so. The Town of Nunda would do the filling and widening of the embankment. The cost to be paid out of the tax levied for County Aid on Town Bridges, anticipated if necessary. Several Supervisors were of the opinion that It was a big bill for the taxpayers,, Supr. Ruth stated that he felt a thorough Investigation should „ b» made l>efore the projeot was started. Supr. Sterne was of the same opinion. Supr. Cornue of Hebron Township requested Information as to how many meetings were held, and where they were held, and whether or not the project WHS county wide or a community project. Mr. Rickert then informed the Board as to the number of meetings held during the past two years, and stated that it was the opinion of the Grange even though it did start as a community project, it was now a Countv wide project. Supr. Dunning moved that it lv referred to the Education Committee for report. Asst. Supts= McConnell stated that the Education (.ommittee already has the matter before them. Chairman of the Lands and Lots Committee, stated that in the matter of the application for Zoning ReclRssittcaion of the property of Edna Nestor, commonly known a^ the McNeil lot. which was approved by the Board of Appeals, operating under the McHenry County Illinois Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance, and was referred to his committee for report, that he wished to report at this time that suit had been instigated in the Circuit Court of McHenry County to set aside reclassification of said property as approved by the Board of Appeals, and that his committee was of the opinion that no action should be taken by this Board until a final decision is made by the Circuit Court. Chairman of the Purchasing Committee, addressed the B<wird and stated that the next meeting of the Board would be the organization meeting and that we would have at least five additional assistant supervisors, and that some action shou'd be taken by the Board to provide proper seating space ill the Board chambers should lie arranged for them.
