Coach Fulton's boys were running all the way as they played fine team ball. Stan Aim continued to show everyone a fine brand pf ball as he hit from both inside and out for 14 points. The Warriors played their finest game of the season as they never let down for a minute. Marengo was a high flying bunch who expected an «asy trip to the semifinals and were greatly surprised by, a peppy Warrior five. The Warriors jumped to an early lead as Lawrence took the opening tip and drove in for thj score, but the Warriors didn't stop there as they hit on their first 7 shots and 11 of their first 12. Stan Aim scored 9 points in the first quarter and John Lawrence 6. As the firat quarter, ended the. Warriors; had built up . a 1&- 12 lead. , - .. Then Marengo fought into a 45-43 lead, but the Warriors came back to knot it up at 45 all! Now it was the Warriors turn to take -charge as Ford tallied two free shots and we led 47-45. Time began to run out and the Warriors clung to a slim 55- fi3 lead as the clock showed 45 seconds left to play. The Marengo Indians then brought the house to its feet as they scored to even it up at 55-55 as the buzzer sounded. Walters Sinks Big One The Warriors entered an overtime and the rest became history. Bobby Walters took a long 35- foot set shot to score. The Warrior fans leaped to their feet rejoicing over a 57-55 lead. &till the Warriors refused to quit. Lawr» ence scored a free throw and so did Ford, making the score 59-55. The Warriors stalled out the last quarter to win as Marengo failed to score when it counted, in the overtime. Tike McHenry wrestling- tl'in was defeated by Zion last Wednesday by the score of 27 to 17. Zion had the advantage all the way. Our heavy weight, Bob Krickle Was ill so we had to forfeit that match. As the match started, we were 5 points behind, due to forfeit. Sonny McDermot, our 112 poi^nder, lost by a pin. SoAny is only a freshman so we are counting on him for the years to come. Charles Green a 112 pounder who did a wonderful job of wrestling won by a pin. Ken Crook, who also could wrestle in 112 class, wrestled in the 118 class. Ken, who had the advantage in weight, tied. The score was now 12 to 7, in lavor of Zfon. Eugene Hughes really had to wrestle in 127 class. This was a close match, too close because the match was also a draw. Arnie Petersen, who is about our trickiest wrestler, lost on a decision. Gil Mercure, who wretles in 138, made up for the loss and won on a decision. Now herp is where the trouble comes in. If you have never seen Zion's 145, 154 and 165 pounder, you have really missed something. These boys are really built, and they had experience. Cliff Walters lost by a pin; this is Cliff's first year at wrestling. Don Theil, our 154 pounder, won by a pin. If our 165- pounder could pin his man, we could tie, but Dick Widen was sick, so Joe Peschke, a 154 pounder, wrestled in his place. Joe tried hard erven though he was out-weighted, but lost by a pin.
