Bertha Valleau and her ttiree sons took a. trip to Mena, Ark,, for a week's visit with the folks at home, and they brought back A friend, Mrs. Hazel Shaw, who Is going to make her home here in Lakemodr. Their Sin, Dr. Erwin J. Sarley, has been • promoted to dental surgeon of the Engineers Battalion in Korea. j Lost week Mrs; Beahler lost "her purse on the highway on the way to Crystal Lake where she works. Since; she didn't discover the loss until she arrived at hei destination, she never expected to see it again. However, it was found by U Seebolt, a new resident of Iiakemoor, and he returned. the purse that very evening. The purse contained some very important papers and Mrs. Beahler was thrilled to have it turned. You see, the gift of human kindness is not yet extinct. the fire department to be used as they see fit. Mr. attd Mrs.*' A. VlR llisach and William Jacobs stopped in to visit the Charles Hueckstaedt family last Sunday, while on their way to Waukeshaw, Wis. A bowling social will be held in McHenry Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. Bowlers wishing to bowl in this social m&y sign up at Wally's. Everyone is invited to attend. The Charm House is now under new management. Mr. and Mrs. Wade of this village have taken over for the present time. The Booster's plan on taking a niuch needed vacation. The rest Of' their plans, are still indefinite. We extend our ^sympathy to Louise Nielsen, Weil known to all of us here in the community, and to her family, upon the death of George Nielsen last week.' In spite o*f her husband's illness for a great many years, Mrs. Nielsen was very active in the community.. She has held an office in the local P.T.A. for most of the ten years she was a member. She also has been active in ihe ladies' league and several other worthwhile organizations. Her spirit in supporting her family and still taking an active part in the community affairs in spite of her misfortunes, .eannot help but be admired. \ . . '* • - Don't forget the Fun club's rummage sale on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Mc- Dermott's garage, benefit of the fire department. Also the "Build a Building" party given by the L.I.A. at Schiavon^s dress factory, on Nov. 15. Cards and bunco and a regular socitU evening will be held. Mr. and Mrs.* CfandAe F. Mc- Dermott entertained their bowling team at their home Tuesday evening. Later, Mr. ahd Mrs. Waynne came in to watch the election retftrns. DROUTH CONDITIONS Long-continued drouth Is bringing water supplies to a critically low level in many Illinois communities, according to Dr. Arthur M. Buswell, chief of the state Water Survey. In southern Illinois several small municipal reservoirs are almost dry. Marion, Carterville and Vienna are' short of water, and at Carbon daie reservoir the water is ten feet below the spillway crest. Low water levels are also reported at various points in central Illinois. The outlook for substantial increase in water supplies during the next three months is not favorable, Dr. Buswell says. Ws.
