Each year the football pl&yers of McHenry Community high school are honored guests at the banquet. At the end of the season the team chooses one of its members to be specially honored. The outstanding player on the team has the pleasure of seeing his name adcjed to those on the Kiwanis football trophy. This player is chosen not ortly ior the prowess on the field, but for his sense of fairness and good sportsmanship, as well as his willingness to work for the glory of the team rather than for personal acclaim. The cheerleaders, those lovely young girls, whose enthnsiam spurs the team on to victory, are also recognised •t the banquet. Kiwanis club feels that the effort required to make this banquet the great success it has always been is more than justified by the pleasure it gives to the players and the inspiration it otfers to the younger students. It encourages young people to make use of their special abilities in athletic and other fields of endeavor. Athletics, they feel, foster^ a sense of fair play; it teachea the necesssity of getting along with others and the ability to make quick decisions coupled with the fortitude to carry out those decisions. / When the team wins, no bounds can hold .the joy experi «nced, but when the team loses they are graceful in their defeat and ever hopeful 01 future victory. • . The Kiwanis club is proud to honor these fine young people and does all in its power to make the evening a memorable one. One of the features of the banquet is the presentation of a speaker, usually one who is prominent in the world of athletics. With this banquet, Kiwanis hopes to contribute its small share toward sending many young people out into the world better equipped to meet life's vicissitudes, better able to enjoy its pleasures, and better adjusted to meet flip daily task of living.
