Effortless emotion: gift of gab ANONYMOUS t£ Fore* Reservist! ailed Questionnaire Veterans On MCHS Team Come Through With Victories ' By Gil Mercure The BIcHenry wrestling team, coached by Mr. Elliott W&eeland, started their season here Wednesday with Wheaton Academy, and had hopes of racking up a team victory, but they couldn't do so. Except for one time, Wheaton Academy was leading all the w?y. Final score: 29-19. McHenry got off to a bad 9tart when they had to forfeit the 165 pound class to Wheaton Academy. This was due to the fact that we., had no wrestler to wrestle in this spot. Bob Stromstead, who is a new member of the team, brought the first victory to McHenry when he pinned his opponent. Bob is showing signs of promise and should aid the team a great deal this year. McHenry has such veterans as Chuck Green, Gene Hughes. Gil Mercure, and Bob Krickl, all of whom brought their team victories. It might interest some of you to know that there has been two more classes added to the regular ten classes. They are 95 and 175 weight classes. This was recently done by the State of Illinois. We think that this was a very good decision, because it gives an opportunity for more boys to come out for this upcoming sport. Our next match is at home against Wheaton High School. VVe surely hope to see you all there on Tuesday the 25th of November. . • . Weight Class 95 Quez of Wheaton, beat Paul Jessup of McHenry, by points. This was the second win in the same number of ustarts *for the Fulton-coached team and quite an improvement in play was noted. Coach Fulton j has eleven men suited up for the first squad and found a spot to use every one. John Bolger, who led the scoring with 13 points, was the only star! er to stay in all the way. John was a ball of fire as he set up plays on offense and gave the opposition fits with his great defensive play. „ Tom Huemann's three' baskets led the way to a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. In fact, Marengo's first point came at 4:25 in the quarter when Griebel sank a free throw. Team Spirit Scoring was well-divided for the Warriors as they' showed good team spirit in passing to the man in best position to shoot. While McHenry led all the way, it is to Marengo's credit that they stayed in there with plenty of scrap to the final whistle. They closed in to a 45-37 score early ir; the fourth quarter before the Warriors pulled away. McHenry's J.V. team won by a 27-18 score. More about the Little Warriors as the season progresses. Now comes the conference grind. McHenry plays in the strong North Suburban group this year, travelling to Warren this (Wednesday) evening. Here's one you won't want tc miss.
