D«cemb*r PLAN FOR ANNUAL FOX RIVER GROVE WINTER CARNIVAL riju Civic organizations of Fox ^Wver Grove will sponsor a winter carnival, beginning Jan. 11 and continuing through Jan. 18. • Part of the program will conslat of skiing, skating, sleighing and ski-joring. Ail neighboring tdwns are cordially invited to ' participate in the fun, and also to select a town beauty as their choice for carnival queen. The qneen will be chosen at the Fox ^gRiver Grove Lions annual dance ^»t the American Legion hall Saturday. Jan. 10. The crowning ceremony will take place at the famous Theodore von Bettendorfs Castle, Fox River Grove, Sunday afternoon, Jan. 11 A large skating rink, 100 ft.. by200 ft., is being prepared for I use throughout the winter. During the carnival week the arrangement committee has made ^plans for figure skating, hockey - games, speed skating and races for children.. -f s A revival of good old sleigh riding days will be made including real horses wiith bells on, pulling sleighs filled with happy kids and jolly grownups, down through the picturesque Fox River picnic grove. Good entertainment during the whole carnival week is promised by the ^ommittee. In addition to the winter sports program there will be electric organ music, and motion pictures showing winter and summer activities" in the Fox River valley region. On Sunday. Jan. 18, as a grand finale, the famous Norge Ski club jump will be held. American and Eureopean Olympic ski stars will again vie for the coveted Norgc medal on this most famous hill in the country. Arthur Tokle. holder *' - hill record of 208 ft., Olympic star and the 1951 American jumping champion, is now a citizen of Fox River Grove, and will, with the first hteavy snowfall, go in training for the coming season. He has been entered in the Torger Tokle Memorial ski tournament at Bear Mountain, New York. In addition to Tokle. the club has several home talents com • ming up. Robert Immens, Chuck Sedives, Robert Schumacher and John Commons, only to mention a few of the boys, born and r a i s e d i n t h e V i c i n i t y of t h e Norge hill. Bob Immens, the winner of the last summer ski jump^ spent the entire last winter in Norway, and learned a few valuable tricks from his Norse competitors. Sig Malvig, Norwegian born ^skier from St. Paul, and now living^ jn /Chicago, is another top notch ski jumper representing the home tjlub. The principle decrease occurred in prices for beef cattle and hogs, both of which dropped $2 per hundredweight . during the month. In grains, corn lost five cents pe. bushel, while wheat, oats and soybeans showed slight price increases.
