The p4rty who stole chickens from the Mrs. E. M. Owen place of late is khown and it will be a good thing for this youngster to call around and square himself unless he wishes to serve a jail sentence. Another boy arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Patzke. nils is the eighth boy to arrive in the home and we believe that the family is eligible recognition from "Teddy" Roose velt. On account of the heavy holi day miil there will be no back stamping of mall at the McHenry as well as all other post offices in the United States be tween Dec. 20 and Jan. 3. There is still a scarcity of houses in the village. Just as soon as a home becomes vacant, there are always from two t> half a dozen applicants for them. A clean, moral show for ladies, gentlemen and children can always be seen at the Central with the "movies" on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. The carpenter work on the W. F. Bassett new home was started last week. Mr. and Mrs. Bassett are very anxious for the completion of the home. TAX CHANGES A Wider application at the state Bales tax, made necessary by a recent decision of the State Supreme court, went into effect thAmghout Illinois December 13, 1952, according to Clifford E. Halpin, Director of the state Department of Revenue. Under the changed regulations, sales to persons who are engaged in service occupations and who incidentally transfer the property to others in connection with rendering service will be taxed. For example, sales of any kind of building material to contractors for use in constructing houses or other improvement to real estate will be subject to the tax. Crying bitterly from disappointment, this refugee woman said just before this picture was taken: "There is no 'life' for us refugees, there is only slow, living death." The scene was Uelzen, Germany, Where processing camps for refugees from the east are maintained. Through CROP, American farmers may restore hope and faith In the thousands who are as deeply despairing as this woman. Through the Christian Rural Overseas Program. life-giving food is sent overseas to mend broken bodies and revive faltering faith. FOR SALE -- House for sale. 6 rooms. Located 210 Richmond Rd.
