WALSH, City Clerk By Maria Scbaettgm Rehabilitation Spreading Christmas cheer a* mong the disabled veterans and their families is of particular interest to members of the American Legion auxiliary. Pearl Nerstad, McCullom Lake, president of the McHenry unit, will join the 925 other chairmen in the state of Illinois in helping put through this Christmas program far the veterans. They will gather at the many veterans' hospitals with other members of their untts and trim trees, wrap gifts and do whatever else is necessary to help these disabled men and women enjoy the holidays. One of the finest things the auxiliary does is to help the veteran who has little or no funds to select gifts for members of his family at no cost to the veteran. For many bed patients, gift-laden carts are wheeled to the veteran's bedside and the veteran selects his own gifts. The auxiliary members help to wrap these gifts and mall them with cards from the veteran himself, with no auxiliary identtfloatioo anywhere on the packet*. v €Mft» For Ywtftp Gifts Fbr Yanks is a yearly Christmas program of the American Legion. This year, as is their custom, the auxiliary will help with this program under the direction of Mrs. Alvin Strum, Illinois state president of the auxiliary. Approximately 17,- 000 veterans in forty-three veterans' hospitals will receive a gift on Christmas morning. Anyone who would like to contribute to tMi Mrs. Wfll, *»• greatly %p»peciated.. ; / Vetera Outstanding among the features of the auxiliary's rehabilitation program is the Veterans' Craft exchange* which is given special emphasis preceding the holiday season in that the shop where the handicraft articles made by the disabled veterans are- displayed and sold gains added impetus during this season. The many fine items made these . veterans range keyrings to fine bed spreads and tablecloths. These items may be purchased through the McHenry unit or at the Veterans' Craft exchange at 30 W.
