Hughes announced after a survey of exhibitors. The sipe of the fleet, which compares with a 371-boat exhibit in last year's show and surpasses that of any exposition in the nation, reflects the Midwest's status aa the oenter of the boating industry and sport, aa well as a nationwide boom in boating, Hughes said. "For boat users and boat builders, the Chicago Show will launch what promises to be boat-1 tag's biggest year," said the show director. "The water-borne population increased tremendously in the year just ended. Fbr example, in Just one phase «f the sport, outboarding, a quarter of a million families took to the waterways tor the first time after buying their first outboard motors and total sales were about 40 per cent aheag of the year before. The open season on beaver, formerly held in December, was advanced to February in order to insure prime .higher quality pelts.
