m • imMUM CAMPAIGN TO SALE OF IT PRODUCTS A. campaign to promote fhe of dairy products in down- Jt«t« Illinois will toe sponsored by the Illinois Agricultural association. This was announced re- ««»tly by Charles B. Shuman, XAA president. ' Object of the campaign, Shuman a&id, will be 16 increase the OonHumption of milk, butter, Oheese and other dairy products. "Everyone knows there is a Surplus of most daily products," tftie IAA president said. "And the tecent drop in dairy price support has, in some instances, brought about lower prices for. dairy products at retail levels. ..Our goal will be to call attention 0t consumers to these factors: fend try to encourage them, to ? #at more of these products. "Although thex-government had in storage about 345 million founds of butter, 361 million pounds of cheese and 593 million §>ounds of non-fat dry milk on hand, as of Mardft 30, this surplus represents only 6 per cent Of the total of total milk production during the last year," Shuman said. "So it is possible that we can do something about this problem. It's been estimated that if every person in the United States would take one more glass of milk per day, there wouldn't be any more surplus accumulation." The decision to sponsor such a dairy products sales campaign is based on a recent action by the IAA board of directors, Shuman said. The IAA is the statewide Farm Bureau organization. The county Farm Bureau marketing Committees will be one of the chief groups to help carry out this campaign, according to Shuman. j "We feel such a campaign will | be of vital interest to consumers, • dairy farmers'* and the dairy industry," the IAA president said. ! "All segments of the dairy indusjtiy -- retail groups, dairy assoj ciations, dairy companies and others -- will be invited to a j meeting in the IAA offices April j 19 to launch the drive. i "Such a program can be a success only if we secure the cooperation of all those vitally ' interested in this program," Shuman declared. "We will also need the cooperation of all communi- | cation media to put the program j across." ; Here are some of the goals at | which the IAA president said | such A project will be aimed: (1) To introduce milk service j into all downstate schools; I ,(2) .To bring milk seryice into j local factories; . *' • ? (3) To cause more milk products to -foe served fti restaurants; (4) To increase consumption of dairy products in farm and city homes; (5) To bring consumers infor mation about the nutritional value of milk. It could, however, be the song of death for motorists who don't heed its warning wttien an emergency vehicle approaches. And, according to recent reports from fire and police departments, many drivers are ignoring its warning, endangering themselves, and congesting street traffic. Because motorists are ignoring the wail, of sirens or are confused as to thf» proper action to take, emergency vehicles are finding it difficult to reach their and wait tor the*igfat-of«w*jr to be cleared. Existing city brdlnances and state laws make it mandatory for motorists to pull over to the right and stop immediately upon hearing the sound of a siren on an approaching vehicle. The vehicle may be approacluig from the frqnt or the rear. The law states that motorists must "drive td a position parallel to, and as close as possible to, the right-hand edge or curt) of the highway clear of any interection' and stop." The driver must come to a complete stop and remain so until the emergency vehicle has passed or unless otherwise directed by a police officer or a fireman.
