UNEMPLOYMENT PAY The number of Illinois workers who received unemployment compensation payments last year was more than 40,000 less than the total recorded in 1952, according to Roy F. Cummins, director of the state Department of Labor. Last year 242,422 workers received benefits as compared to 283,315 in 1952, Cummins said. Total unemployment compensation benefits paid in 1953 amounted to $51,318,764, while in 1952 the total was $57,627,987.
