This defeat was the first of the season in county leagrfe play for the power-packed Simplex team under the direction of the veteran Jess Armstrong. Algonquin had swept through the league for 9 straight wins and seemed well on the way to make it 10 when things began to happen in that ninth inning last Sunday. Loren Freund started for the Tigers and appeared to have the situation in hand until a 3-run sixth put the visitors ahead 5 to 4. Another run in the seventh brought in John Toomey to finish without ihiy trouble from the slugging Simplex. 5§i Meyers led off the home ninth with a hit and Howie Freund walked. Si stole fhird and scored on a hit by Lloyd Freund. With two out. "Tony" Freund sent a long fly ball into right "field tliat was dropped,. aMowing two runs to score. No damage was i eported. By Dick Smith The McHenry All Stars played a good ball game against Father Jeiry's Sultans last Saturday night but some very timely hitting by the Sultans gaVe them their victory 24 to 15. Three different teams saw action for McHenry, The first squad left the game at the end of the third inning with the score Sultans 5, McHenry 0. Allen, the Sultan pitcher, allowed only two hits in these three in* nings. At the end of the sixth the score was 17 to 7 in favor of the Sultans; McHenry got back in the ball game in the fourth, scoring five runs on two errors and doubles by Peisert, Rochefo?d and Weyland and a single by Carl Neiss. Singles by Neiss and Russ Weyland with an error in between scored two more in the sixth. The third team came into the game in the seventh. A home run by Morenz and hits by Weber, Hansen, Rich Freund and Buss fiade the score 20 to 12. Two runs in the eighth brought the score to 24 to 14. A double by Morenz and another single by Hansen brought hope to McHenry in the ninth but the next three men went out in order. Father Jerry's Sultan# had twenty-eight hits in the ball game. Piper and Skwerski had five apiece. Skwerski had two home runs, a triple, double and sir^gle/in five times at bat. Piper had four singles and a double in six. The Sultans expressed their desire to play another game in McHenry so maybe sometime in the future they may make another appearance. The game was most interesting to watch as the crowd, the lajgetft at a ball game in McHenry for some time, cheered for their favorite players. They never gave up and for sometime after the game the replays of this or that inning could be heard almost anywhere in the park. To the All Stars, a great big "thank you" from the 16-inch Softball league. The game certainly was a big lift in making the league a success. Thanks %>• gain. » In the regular schedule Bi Motors continued their winnl ways with two more victories. They beat their closest rivals, the Palace, 12 to 8 and Blata Beer 15 to 12.
