New Bigger Plymouth HaUpwe'en Party a (Success On Oct. 2?, a gay Hallowe'en party was held at the Community club hall. Pictured here is the Belvedere sport coupe. Plymouth Announces Bigger, More Powerful 1955 Models * • Plymouth's bigger and more powerful 1955 model cars will be displayed by A. S. Blake Motor Sales, 301 E. Pearl St., McHenry, HI., beginning Wednesday, Novem^ ber 17. The 1955 PlymouUis are entriely new, both in styling and engineering detail. They are lower, longer and wider than previous Plymouth cars. They are the most powerful cars Plymouth ever built. The 1955 .engines are a 117-horsepower Power- Elow six, a 157-horsepower Hy- Fire V-8 and a 167-horsepower Hy-Fire V-8. The latter engine also is available with a four-barrel Carburetor and special manifold Which increases its horsepower to 177. • Plymouth offers as optional equipment a full range of automatic and power assist devices. They include PowerFlite fully automatic no clutch transmission, a new design coaxial full-time jiower steering* power brakes, power-operated front seat adjustments, power-operated window regulators, and adjustable speed electric windshield wipers. Air conditioning by Airtemp also is available as special equipment. The 1955 line is made up of 12 models, including for the first tfane four-door versions of the Plymouth Suburban, the all steel body "station wagon" type car which Plymouth pioneered in 1949. Styling by Exner Plymouth's 1955 styling is the creation of a design team headed by Virgil M. Exner, director of styling. It is based on 'the premise, Exner says, that styling must first be conceived as a unity. Ornamentation is then used to accentuate existing highlights rather than to create new ones. Among the distinctive features of Plymouth's new styling are a low silhouette, slimness and sleekness of body lines, deeply recessed head lights and tail lights, and an overall appearance of forward motion. Plymouth four-door sedans are 10.3 inches^ longer than their predecessors. They are 1.7 inches lower. Front seats are 3.2 inches wider and rear seats 5.9 inches wider. A new Full-View wrap-around windshield, witn swept back corner posts, at top and bottom, has 16 per cent more glass area. It is contoured to eliminate distortion and to give the driver maximum vision at eye lev^l. The new models have push button door handles. The fuel filler'"pipe has been moved from the rear to the right side of the car, with an attractive hinged door on the right rear panel. The filler pipe occupies unwed space behind the spare tire. The trunk compartment has 33.8 c*ibic feet of useful space and the trunk compartment lid has an entirely new torsion bar hinge mechanism which provides more head clearance and a more evenly tioed deck lid. Colors and Fabrics '•The color styling and fabrics of 1955 models are new. They also are trend-setting, in the confident belief of Plymouth designers who made use of new methods of analysing color ^preferences and cycles of color popularity. New Heating System Another entirely new feature is a compact heating and ventilating unit mounted on the dash. It takes in outside air from the cowl vent at the base of the windshield. This arrangement eliminates the need for space-hogging air ducts through the engine compartment. It also helps keep dirt and fumes out of the car. Larger fans and motors, and improved design of the unit, permits more even distribution of heat inside and better defrosting of the windshield. An improved Airtemp car air conditioner is offered on the 1955 Plymouth for the first time. The unit employs a two-cylinder reciprocal compressor. It has a magnetic clutch which connects the compressor to the engine only when cooling is needed, and a new jingle condenser which minimizes interference with engine cooling. (Adv.)
