BALLETS ESPAGNOLS . OPENS ENGAQ1 tN CHICAGO JABf. 3 >" The sensuous, tempestuous, pul- , eating rhythms of Spain's color? iul GypSy tribes are contrasted with the graceful, ethereally delikv. fate tempos of the . Castillian minuet in the program offered Ballets Espagnols -- one of the foremost dance companies of Europe -- which will open a three weeks' engagement at the Great Northern theatre, Chicago, on Monday, Jan. 3. Ballets Espagnols is making its debut appearance in Chicago on this, its first United States tour, and the accolades are still resounding from the troupers fabulously successful appearance on Broadway earlier this season. The company has been unanimously hailed by the ^critics of Madrid, London, Paris, Milan and Buenos Aires. Ballets Espagnol's company of fifty, with full ballet orchestra, is j headed by Teresa and Luisillo, ' two young stars who are achiev- j ing world fame for their new concept of the Spanish dance -- in which the essence of traditional forms are combined in theatre pieces which tell a story or suggest a dramatic incident. Teresa Combines the elegance of Old {jfpain with a lithe, cat-like grace. She sets an impassioned pace for Hie castanet-clicking, foot-stompl Ihg company. Her husband and jjartner, Luisillo, is particularly adept at dancing. to the accompaniment of a guitar, and his footwork is brilliant whether he is dancing in the more classical form or the fiery Fandango. Featui ed in the company are the breath-takingly beautiful Maria Vivo, 19-year-old comedienne and singer whose grace and impudent inflections have been show-stopping triumphs all over the world; El Nino de Almaden, popular Flamenco singer With innumerable films and recordings to his credit; Angel Iglesias, one of Spain's foremost guitarists. The entire group is ceaselessly drilled in the classic dance idiom -- yet each has an individual ability that sets him pr her apart. Equal acclaim has been accorded the magnificent and authedtic costuming and scenery as well as the superlative dancing and: showmanship. Tickets are now on sale at the Great Northern Theatre box office and mail orders are promptly filled. Opening Jan. 3, Ballets Espagnols will play every night including Sundays at 8:3C p.m. for three weeks. Matinees a& scheduled for Saturdays and Sjifpdays. No performances Janu- 10 or 17. So today we want to talk about your throwing the light from your flash attachment on these groups to take. some pictures that will make many people happy--not just for now, but in the years to come. With amateur equipment, you shouldn't try to picture a large group--five or six people is about as many as you should put in one shot If the group is larger, take two pictures. The family group pictures of Victorian days were stiff as could be, with everyone staring straight into the camera, looking a' bit as though they were facing a firing squad. That, of course, is something you want to avoid. And here's the easiest way to do it. Be sure your group has a center of interest Chances are good that - in these family gatherings your pictures will practically set themselves up with little or no effort on your part. The conversational groups that form naturally offer topnotch subject material. Three oi four adults, admiring the youngest of the family is another perfectly natural groupibg. A household pet . . . the newest engagement ring in the family ... a picture of the boys away in service--any number of things can serve as a center of interest for the people you'd like to picture together. When taking your indoor pictures with flash, try to^make certain that the people in your group are all about the same distance from the camera. You don't have to measure it down to the last inch. But if you have one person close to the camera, one at medium distance, and a third in t^e background--your lighting on the people will be just that uneven. The person in the foreground is likely to come out too light, the one in the middle about right, and the one in the back too dark. In picturing a group of people, your best bet Is to have them all more or less at the middle distance. „ --John Van Guilder Twice Tola taies • Twenty-Five Yean Afo'^- Christmas cornea but onc% a year, and when it comes it brings good cheer. > Grandmother was brought up on this age-old rhyme; mother learned it when a little child and for the past two months the children have been repeating it with delightful anticipation. Miss Geraldine Acker, foods specialist at the University of Illinois, says you can heat a pintsized block of frozen turkey a la king in about 45 minutes without waiting for it to thaw first. It therefore makes an easy-to-prepare meal during the holiday rush or when unexpected guests arrive. t Miss Acker says the University of Illinois used a fairly rich recipe when it tested recipes for turkey (chicken) a la king and got very good results. She recommends this tested recipe: Melt % qup of butter in the top of a double boiler over direct heat at first instead of over water. Add half a green pepper cut in strips and a four-ounce can . of mushrooms. Cover the saucepan and let simmer for about five minutes. Lift the cut pepper and mushrooms out of the fat andi blend % cup of flour with the fat. Slowly add 2 cups of coffee cream or. evaporated milk, 2 cups of turkey or chicken broth and salt and pepper to taste. Stir constantly until the sauce thickens.. Add half a pimento cut into strips and 3 cups of diced cold turkey. Place the pan over boiling: watiiv cover aitd cook until thoroughly heated. - Then cool" quickly (by placing the cooking pan in either a iitgk pan of ice water or a pah of running watch-) to room temperature before packaging. Stir occasionally to hurry up thei,, cooling. When the food is Cold enough to be packaged, put it into containers. Because it packs solidly and will expand during freezing, Miss Acker says to leave about % inch at the top of the pint container. For best results, freeze it immediately. card oi thanks ' ; I wish to thajik all my friends ftnd relatives for the car<ts, players. and gifts I received durifeff my illness and stay in the hoipltal.
