f' v. ••r. If* Thursday, '»'*•• » ' I THE 1955 CHAMPS f"Ag- tlwaH,"•! We hear that Bill Bolger was Officially signed by the Chicago White Sox the first of the year as a scout for the organization. €<lh£. WARRIORS LOOK SHARP AGAINST LAKE FOREST Now, wouldn't we be happy to tee some local ball player go up the ladder and play with, the Sox. Bill should know his way a- Ipund baseball circles in these parts. We hope he can do some good for himself -- and, of course, for our Sox. tThe Shamrocks are starting efrly this year to make ready for the coming season. Larry Stilling iHll be back as manager after a year of experience under his belt. ; Several business men have decftled that the team needs new stilts. Each will buy a suit and H&ve his firm name lettered on tiSe back. If you want to get in da this plan, please contact Larry Stilling, Waiter "Guv" Bolger or Bill Bolger. /Clarence Smith, one of the original Shamrocks, has come up with another real good idea. He Wants to put on a special day for the originals next summer. Watch for more news from Clarence on tfils. It could be a big day. «5Tie McHenry Warriors have vKm two, basketball games since we last went to press and maybe you think that doesn't make everybody happy. ^They had to work hard for tfcat win over Lake Forest. Just when we had victory headlines in our mind, Lake Forest put on a tNrd quarter dash that had us churning. Everything turned out just dandy. 6aw the boys wallop Hebron Tuesday night. The MCHS Warriors decided that you have to pop that ball through the basket more times than the other team if you want to win. That's just what the boys did against Lake Forest before a large home crowd Friday night for a .61 to 46 victory. Tom Oeffling found himself in this game, using his size to get shots under the basket where percentage runs higher. His three baskets in the first half did much toward getting the team off to a start. Ted Olson was the big man on Lake Forest's team, scoring 15 points and giving early evidence of being a stumbling block for Ron May. However, Ron came through in great style on rebounds and hit early season form with 22 points. Leading 28 to 19 at half time, the Warriors came out in the third quarter for that one bad period. It threw a real scare into the home crowd. The visitors outscored the Warriors 14 to 11 in this period, but Dick Yokley had found himself by this time and put terrific drive into his efforts. May had found the range and the boys moved into the fourth period with confidence. The Warriors were loosened up (after a time-out smile from Coach Fulton) and responded with their best performance of the season. They outscored Lake Forest 13 to 2 in the fourth period before reserves came off both benches to wind up the game. % Photo by Fr0st Front row: Jim Jackson, Loren Freund, Tom Huemann and Melvixb-' Freund. ..; - Standing: Lloyd Freund, Ray Schmitt, Bob Comstock, Bob Peisert» Ed Jackson and "Hessie" Miller. . EDGES 0UT McHENRY FROSH-SOPHS 39-26 It was close all the way. But, it was Lake Forest's Junior Varsity that held the edge on McHenry's Frosh-Soph team for a 39 to 36 win here Friday night. Trailing by one and two points in the late stages, the home boys had to "go out and get 'em". This caused the usual fouls. In the final analysis, it was at the free throw line where McHenry lost the game. Each team had 15 field goals as McHenry had a 31% shooting average to 30% for the winners. From the whistle stop Lake Forest scored 9 points out of 24 tries. McHenry had 6 out of 14. Huemann and Cepulis led the home scoring with 10 points each while Swan hit 14 for the winners. Warriors Beat Hebron 75-45 It has been a long time since a McHenry coach could toss all his reserves in against a Hebron basketball tieam and still come out with a 30 point niargin. But, that is just 'what happened at Hebron Tuesday night when Coach Cliff iFulton's boys breezed to a 75 to 45 victory. Frank Oeffling scored the first basket of the game, then saw Hebron take a brief lead. The quarter ended with McHenry holding only a 3-polnt lead. The gap widened with each period and saw the real spread come in the final quarter. Danny Green scored 18 points in the last half to lead the scoring department. It was Bob Coulman and his 17 points that led Hebron's offense most of the way, but Spooner finally edged his mate by 1 point. McHenry (75) F. Oeffling T.
