WARRIORS BEAT WOODSTOCK FIVE HERE 53 TO 45 •WHO HAS THE BALL? •Torch" Krause calls our attention to another Vernon Freund special, 200-247-202-649. Wow! Old Timer Lester Bacon got into the act With 185-234-216- 635. Nadine Larkin has a good series, 212-147-211-570. -We can't recall the top scores. In the mixed group for the Polio Fund, but you will find them in a separate story. Coach Fulton's varsity basketball team has now won four straight games. The once mighty Hebron fell before the Warriors here Tuesday night, but none can say that Hebron isn't still in there pitching. They will come back. McHenry now holds a share in fourth place in the league and has notions of improving the position at Lake Forest Friday night. Next Tuesday night Harvard comes to McHenry for a nonconference game. A week from Friday, Feb. 25, Zion will be here for the final game before the regional tournament. - Balanced Attack Puts McHenry III Fourth Place Tie That's your schedule. Let's follow the team to Lake Forest. A good crowd on tiheir side of the fence will help. The Hebron game lacked the luster of other years when the Green Giants were the talk of the £tate. Maybe it was the pep built that we missed. A reader sends in the following Story to help us this week. When you tell it, you can twist it around. But, you will need the Quaker. A Quaker farmer living near President Eisenhower's farm near[ Gettysburg, Pa., had (his troubles with an old cow he was mining, acordtag to Rep. Don dero. (It., Mich.). The cow had been standing in the farm pond and her tail was soggy with mud. As she swung it at an imaginary fly, her tail slapped the. farmer squarely across the face, making him furious. But his religious beliefs stood up. He stoically refrained from any retaliation. As he resumed his milking, the cow gave a vicious kick, catdhing the farmer on the knee and sent him sprawling and spiffing the pail of milk. The Quaker scrambled out of the mire, stamped around to the cow's head, and shoving his nose squarely against her nose shouted: "Thee knows who I am. Thee knows that my religion prevents me from giving you a boot. But what thee doesn't know is there is nothing to prevent me from selling thee to that Presbyterian down the road who can kick hell out of thee." The Warriors or MCHS are still on the warpath. Last Friday night the Woodstock Blue Streaks came to town with a 2-0 record against the home team this season. They went home on the short end of a 53 to 45 score and found themselves tied with McHenry for fourth place in the North Suburban standings. The Streaks started strong as Musser hit three shots from outside in the first quarter and Bob CRourke proved to be rugged on defense. The visitors held the edge by one point at half time.' The Warriors hadn't shown much scoring punch in the first half although their defensive play was outstanding. The . third quarter was different as the home boys went into a lead that was threatened but never lost. Much to the pleasure of the crowd, good defensive play was not marred by continuous whistle tootin'. Balanced Attack Coach Fulton's aim toward a balanced attack was answered with a good spread, over the entire lineup. Huff and Novak contributed their share while feeding the ball to the taller mates up front. Oddly enough McHenry had the same number of points (12) in each of three quarters while Wood- Stock hit the magic number 10 in three "of their periods. It was in the third period that the Warriors picked up on points with each man contributing to a count of 17. The visiting Streaks kept the crowd on edge by closing in to within two points in the last quarter before the Warriors hit for a lead and protected it with Novak leading a control game. It's so much more fun to win. And the Warriors have picked up the habit. .
