BOXERS IN FAST BOUTS FOR LOCAL FANS Good Sportsmanship- Shown; Joey White Third Man In Ring The O.Y.O. boxers appeared in the local gym Saturday night and gave those present a demonstration of good, clear training in the manly art of self defense. Of special local interest was the presence of the eyer popular Joe white as the third man in the ling. Joey, now a resident of McCullom Lake, handled the bouts without a flaw and gave further evidence that he is one of the best. In the opening bout, Richard Clark showed a good left hand to take the decision over Everett -Walter . Next came a couple of short, heavy boys in the 175-pound class. After two rounds, Willie Williams found that Pierre Austin was leaving his ample midriff wide open. Then came some real bolo wind-ups. Pieire could take it, but Willie was the boy with his right arm raised. A couple of ' well-muscled glovers at 147 pounds put on a spirited bout, with' the crowd coming to life, the nod going to Melvin Pittman over Joel Montgomery. Preston Swoopes won over Elmo Johnson on a TKO in the 135-pound class. This one was fast while it lasted. Henry Paul showed a hammering left hand that was too strong fo: Frank Walker. This was another TKO as they decided not to send Walker out for the last round. At 146 pounds, Jerry Turner showed real class in a decision over Leon Welch. Leon was a good boy, but "was up against a ~real comer in Turner. : The official timer was Dr. Buttari. John Schreiner and Eddie Albrecht were capable judges.
