P. Mathews, president of the McHenry Coun- . ty Board of Realtors, declared last week. The local Realtors' president cited these points as favoring the continued building across the nation of one million home units yearly: < 1. Only 56 per cent of the nation's families are home-owners and the non-home-owning public 1 continues to show strong interest in buying homes. li 2. Specific demand is shown in the recently-released consumer JSurvey of the Federal Reserve , Hystem which found that the Slumber of those planning to buy or build houses this year is greater than that of early 1854, and slightly .larger than the figure for early 1953. - 3. There is a good "buyer's market" now, with prices tending to remain stable, mortgage money ample, earnings and savings steady, employment high, and business promising. This situation gives today's home buyer a maximum value for his homepurchase dollar. 4. The recent annual home construction rate, which is now greater than the rate of family formations, is a healthy c<mdition, paving .the way for reaUza- * fcion of ithfe real estate profession's aim to eliminate the unfit and least desirable housing on the market. These economic forces, according to the Realtors' leader, were: cited just recently J>y. a national-! ly known economist. They were listed as: 1. Public recognition that it is frequently cheaper to own than rent, particularly when income tax deductibility of interest on mortgages and propertytaxes are taken into account. 2. R^pid increase in the aged population, which has the higheat. percentage of home, ownership. 3. Record numbers of children being' born, a condition making for more families with children, and larger numbers of children: per family. 4. The shorter work-week and greater amounts .of leisure, making "house and yard" more attractive tq., many. t ; 1 Lend Uncle Sam Your Dollars WORWICK'S McHenry Camera Center Cameras Photographic Eqrtiptaerit Amateur and Professional Bought, SoUl and Exchanged PHOTO SVPPliBS View Masters and Keels Color films Processed Family Albums See Us Before You Buy Worwick's §tudio 117 N. Don't know? Then take out a pack of cards and see for yourself. You'll discover that the center pip on the Ace of Spades is three times larger than the others and that it beers the name of the card manu- J facturer. • . There's a 1 k reason behind this interestin g fact and it dates all the way back to 1615 when King James I of England imposed the first dt what proved . to be many taxes on the popular pasteboards. This eventually resulted in new importance lor the Ace of Spades ; and brought it the nick-name at "Old Frizzle." Here's why. In 1765, following successive tax leyies, English card manufacturers iie ordered to turn over to the government Stamp Office the paper 'On which the Ace of Spades for each pack was to be printed. After the Stamp Office printed that one card and returned .it to the -manufacturer, it was then packaged with the rest of the deck under the supervision of a government official The object of this complicated routine was to make certain that the government collected the tax due on each pack, the special ace serving as a sort"of tax stamp. Since the government-produced card was engraved by persons more familiar with stamps and bank-notes (design of which most be safeguarded against forgery) they added swirls, scrolls. Wisps and Nourishes to the simple spade design. As a result of its ornate appearance. card players gave it the name of "Old Frizzle," a title It wore well nto the 19th century. Other nicknames have been given the ace in other places. In one section of England, for example, it is still called "Tib" although no one seems to know why. Today, of course, the government tax stamp on a deck of, playing cards is affixed to the outside cellophane wrapping of the package. But the memory of "Old Frizzle" is kept fresh by the fact that even today the center pip is' larger than thnt on all other aces and it is chosen to bear the proud name of its manufacturer. LAKELAND PA|tf£ PROjbtelKrx OWN6fcS ASSOC.;:;1 ' Box 60x, Rt. 4, McHenry, Illinois % Hirarlp rf lEaatw The world has only one certified religion, only one religion which bears the signature of heaven, and that is the religion of Jesus Christ. The miracle of the first Easter is God's own signature, attesting the validity of every claim and every promise which Jesus Christ has made. He had claimed that He was In truth the very Son of God. He had claimed that He would lay down His life for the sinB of the world and would rise again on the third day. He had promised that all who Would repent of their sins and would trust in His death for their redemption would be assured of a place in His "Father's House" above. Did He have the right to make these promises? Did He have the power to fulfill them? The miracle of Easter shouts a loud affirmative. "He was declared to be the Son of God ...by the resurrection from the dead!" Christians throughout the worl. rejoice in the knowledge that they are worshiping, not a dead prophet, but a living Christ, a Christ who is eternal in the heavens, a Christ whose Easter resurrection stands unique and tjnassailed as the signature of heaven.
