We just avvakened to the fact that a visit to our two funeral homes had had its effect. The sudden loss of Leo, Mary Jane and Louise has stunned whole community. By all standards they were good kids. There have been many tears shed -- even by many not closely associated with those young peo$»le. But, we honestly feel that for every tear a hundred prayers have been said. And we lost Mrs. George Kramer. We served with tier on .the McHenry Library Board and will miss her more than a little bit. Now, there was a -girl wiho could roll up her sleeves and get a project moving. You know, we were still thinking a great deal about the toss of a true friend, Frank Hughes, when all those other jolts came along. Somehow, we didn't .think that Prank would ever die. But, the world moves on and newspaper presses won't wait. Time would not permit a full game for us last Sunday, but we saw a couple of innings, as Joimsburg's Tigers beat the Shamrocks in a practice game. Joe Frett has a good mixture of veterans and rookies and may tome up with a fine blend. Larry Stilling- has work abead. Of course, when Sonny Miller gets in the groove, the pitching worries will ease. We noted that Guv Bolger was in uniform. There were rumors Dying around about his contract .roubles. We misplaced a notation, but wiH catch up on this one. Connie Dowell, 12-year-old daughter of Earl Dowell, Huefarm's Subdivision, caught a 5% pound, 18-inch bass in Fox River right off the pier. As we afet it, a small perofo took the \Vprm and the large bass took the email perch. That pre-season game between the McHenry Shamrocks and Johnsburg Tigers took .place on the McHenry diamond last Sunday afternoon with) Johnsburg winning quite handily, 12 to 4. The game served to bring out both strength and glaring weaknesses. The Tigers collected a total of 18 hits good /for 27 basea to. show thait - 'power lurks in the lineup and on the bench. Sixteen players were used by Manager Joe Frett. Manager Larry Stilling saw enough to tell him <that his team needs plenty of practice and some additional strength.. They journeyed to Libertyvilie last Thursday and tied 5 to 5. Friday, Crystal Lake paid McHenry a visit and it was a joyride for them. They rode over our youthful lads 10 to 0. Monday of this week, our Warriors drove to Elgin and the lads from the Watch City wound up and ticked away for a 10 to 0 win. Sunday's winners at the Country Club, playing a Peoria system in the three brackets, were: Group 1 through 7, Joe Nischan first, and Carl Schmidt second; Group 8 to 13, Frank Rourke first. Northern Mini Bowmen News COMING EVENTS INTEREST SHOWN IN JUNIOR HIGH TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENT JUNIOR HIGH TABLE TENNIS On April 29, 1955, the annual eighth grade Gym Show was held. Under the direction of Miss Gerry Carey, the girls .put on a program for their parents. The show was held at the McHenry Junior High school. As one of the activities, the table tennis tournament finals; were held. Karen Kralowetz played and was defeated by, Patsy McCracken. The scores were 21-18; 16-21; 21-19. In the semi-finals, Karen Kralowetz played Barbara Krickl.. Barbara was defeated! with tfliie scores of 11-8, 7-11, 11-7. AlJBo in the semi-finals, Patsy McCracken played and defeated Joyce Eckstein. The scores were 11-4, 9-11, 11-7. The thirty-two girls who en-; rolled in the sport showed muchu improvement over 1954's tournament. Almost sixty archers were on hand to .try their luck shooting the balloons at different targets. The lucky winner in the Free Style division was Bob Wieboldt of McHenry. Bob won over Bob Seymour and Jay Crick. In the Instinctive class, first went to Bob Sullivan of Gages Lake; second to Ed Oflsen of Lake Villa; and tied for third were Duke Adams and Phil Wheelock of McHenry. In the Worn ens division, Clary Perry was tops, Joan Hamm second, and third and fourth went to Dorothy Rueger of Palatine ami Nell Abney of Maywood.
