Four THE MeHENRY PLAJNDEALER •ka- toVteaHl-i We have a new addition to the Plaindealer family and he has learned! his way around fast. We refer to Jack Buckie, the fellow who keeps the books. He got up a little book of his own for the Kentucky Derby. Just a chummy little pool of a buck apiece. And just for those in the organization. So we pays our buck and gets Flying Fury, a nag who did all his flying in the derby trial. Who drew the winner, Swaps? Ah, my friends, 'twas none other •than the new man around this establishment, Lucky Buckie. Some time in life we are bound to stub a toe. Mildred Kinsala not only stubbed hers -- she broke it! Nobody pushed her. Nobody shoved her .She was just trying to climb stairs. A person mig-Ht just as well leave their shoes on and tread as softly as possible. "Dear Mr. Walsh: "I often see McHenry mentioned in the Chicago Tribune, but here's an item from the Kiel Record which is a weekly paper. Thought it might be of interest to you. "Sincerely, "Marie Jothnson Latin "(Former 'Bald Knob-ate')" Many people are willing to drink milk. But sometimes they • have trouble getting it when they want it. A case in point is the McHenry, Bl., high school. . Before a milk vending machine t' was installed in the school, 3000 5. bottles of a cola drink were sold , each month by a vending mach- - me. The second month of opera- ' tion for the milk vendor saw its sales jump to 6600 (half-pints of > cow juice and the cola dropped to 200 battles." Thanks for the clipping, Marie. | We will have to run this story down to find Out if the Grade ,y "A" brought on any "A" Grades. We have a great buntfh of v fellows around here. Now a group 1 is giving up time and working •f^hard to form a Lattlg League to "" give the young boys a chance to . play baseball. This is just a start. As time ||lgoes on, we expect to see other "§*age groups organized. The Ldttle League meeting Is reported in a separate story on this page. Guy Bushi, .the old! Suppose you heard about Ernie Freund being locked in the Palace Bowling Alley. We couldn't tell you about it last week 'cause we were invited t to the Forester Bowling Dinner •. at Mi Place and couldn't take a % Chance on Ernie slipping us a tough steak. As it turned out, we had one of those famous steak dinners that Ernie and Carolyn serve each year to the group. Make 'the ball games a habit and you will have a lot of fun. Grayslake won over our pitch and putt lads by a margin of 9^2 points to 5%. Bob Cable and Dave Kent had 101 and 102 respectively. Friday the team travelled to Lake Forest, hoping to revenge an earlier defeat, but tfhe boys from Lake Forest dropped the boom on the Warriors by the tune of 13 ito 2. Playing on a public fee course, the players were handicapped by not being allowed to .play through, therefore playing only twelve holes instead of the customary eighteen. Again. D. Kent and B. Cable played consistently good golf. Two weeks from Sunday, May 29, the McHenry Country Club will stage a "I Beat George E. Johnson" day. A large attendance is expected at a meeting, called by Little League baseball promotors, at tflre V.F.W. club house this (Thursday) evening at 8 o'clock. Much of the ground work has been dtone and now the parents are urged to attend 'this meeting with their sons to learn the plans in store for the boys during the coming summer. Boys in the age groups 8 years to 12 years inclusive will play in this league. This group will, include boys in the McHenry Grade School district, it being assumed that adjoining districts will want to form tiheir own leagues. Great interest has been shown dn Little League play throughout the country as the enthusiasm of .the young boys soon rubs off on parents and spectators. As a special feature of the meeting, the local organization has arranged to nave Guy Bush attend and explain the formation of baseball leagues for boys. We give you a little sketch of this famous baseball player -- one of baseball's greats -- GUY BUSH. He pitched for the Cubs from 1924 to 1936 during which time he pitched in two World Series -- 1929 and 1932. Guy was the only pitcher that won a game for the Cubs in the Series of 1929.
