Anonymous CONSERVATION AREA Siloam Springs, comprising 2,575 acres in Adams artel Brown counties, is the second largest conservation a^ea in Illinois, following the decent gift of 95 acres of lanjd by Mrs. Jane R. Barrett of) Quincy. Formerly Siloam Springs was a privately owned health resort, with medicinal springs, bath houses and a hotel. The terrain is heavily timbered and marked by hills and deep valleys. The old resort buildings have given way to a "shelter house, playground equipment and 'picnic and camping grounds. The Department of Conservation is constructing a high dam across a ravine to impound water to form a 70-acre lake. When stocked with fish this planned lake is expected to be one of the choicest fishing and recreational places in western Illinois, according to Robert G. Miley, superintendent of state parks and memorials. NAME BABY Lynn Ferol is the name selected by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tomlinson for the 7 ib. 3 oz. daughter born to them on June 8. Mrs. Tomlinsin is the former Miss Ferol Martin. organized team but each and every player has three or four more years of softball behind her. The Speedettes played heads up ball throughout the entire game. Manager Dottie McKaige feels after games like last week's that the team will really accom plish what they have set out to do become world's amateur champions. The Speedettes pounded the China Dolls for 12 hits, allowing them only 4 hits. A great pitching job was turned in by Patricia Smith. She in return was given the best fielding support the Speedettes have shown since organizing, not to mention the batting support. Hustle, determination and cool thinking beat the China Dolls, a team we wanted to beat possibly more than any other team we have ever played. This coming weeQc the Speedettes play host to either the Chicago Roamers, in a return game, or the Douglas Park girls. Douglas Park is Chicago 14 inch Softball Champions. The Douglas girls, like the Speedettes, can really hustle, never giving up until the last out is made. The Chicago Roamers, -though beaten by our girls 9-8 two weeks ago, are also very good and always a threat to our team. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the McHenry Merchants for their support.,/ The Speedettes no longer have to worry about meeting the expense of playing on a lighted field. Words cannot express our appreciation to you all. Be sure to attend our games. You'll really enjoy these gals. They can really play softball. We would like to show you what has been accomplished so far and also to ask for assistance in completing the park. We need help in order to get League play started by July 7. Due to the eleven days of rain, we are behind schedule. If there are any boys from outside the" McHenry grade school district registered with a McHenry Little League team, please contact the league secretary. We cannot accept anyone from outside the grade school district. However, Wonder Lake has started a move to get Little League baseball established there. It is believed that Johnsburg will follow suit very -shortly. Thus, every boy in this community will have an opportunity to play. But it is very important that each boy play in his own district. Proper positioning of the ball to the. stance so that the club head can follow the contour-jof the ground is the key to greater success. On uphill lie, play the ball, forward of the left heel, so when the club head contacts the ball it will be weli on the upswing and away from the hill. On down hill lies, play the bal^ to the' right heel so that the club gets to the ball quicker and continues on thru the shot. Thdrd round winners for the directors Cjup in Class A, show that J.
