Don Peasley, a fellow sports writer, comes lip with a nifty idea in a fine column. He suggests that Woodstock's new Little . League field be named •'(George Sullivan Field". Don glides nicely through a column that tells of old Put and Take's 34 years of service in reporting sports news and encouraging Jtids in sports. We second your motion,' Don. The St. Louis Cardinals will hold a tryout camp at Elgin's Wing Park, July 18-19. • Have an interesting note from Howard Phalin. Seems Howard was taking a plane ride so bought a New York Times in Boston to. catch up on the news. To his surprise, he ran into a picture of Phillip J. Dorr, whom Howard knew in his freshman year at McHenry High. P. J. Dorr will be remembered by many as one of McHenry finest coaches and as a tough cookie on discipline. The story told of Dorr being appointed as executive of the traffic safety unit. The picture tells why Howard remariks "Looks like they have good pork chops in Penna." Way back when, Dorr, Charlie Reihansperger and the late Doctor Froehlich used to room and board at the Grandma Frisby home where Anna's hospitality brightened the home. McHenry was bursting at the seams with Fourth of July traffic, but once again McHenry police took good care of the crowds. Saw the firemen on the job, too, awaiting any call to help. We learn that Bob Predni and Rose Graziano, of the McHenry group, were awarded a chance at the Illinois State Roller Skating Meet to oarticipate in the national meet. McHenry has some fine skaters who will be right up there in a year or two. With a hat full of sports items to get set vtp and with one linotype operator on vacation, we are cutting this short in a short week. « The McHenry Shamrocks have an open date in the county league schedule next Sunday so have arranged to have the up and coming Dundee team here. . Tliis (Thursday evening at 6:30 the Shamrocks will meet the local Legion nine here. TTiat should be spme fun. Johnsiburg travels to Crystal Lake Merchants' mond next Sunday. the dia- WHO SAID IT FIRST? "Come to Scandinavia where there's a fjord in your future." Doing business without advertising is like winking at a girl in the dark. You know what you are doing but no one else does. A woman is young until she takes more interest in how her shoes fit than her sweater "What's the matter with you, Frank? Monday you liked beans, Tuesday you liked beans, Wednesday you liked beans; now Thursday, all of a sudden, you don't like beans." People are more worried about your Scotch these days than your English." A cold is both affirmative and negative: Sometimes the eyes have it and sometimes the nose. A hypochondriac is someone who can't leave being well •nough alone. Some of the busiest people in the world are only picking up the beans they spilled. Jumping at conclusions is not nearly as good a mental exercise as digging for facts. Three hints on speech-making: Be sincere, be brief, be seated. If your life is a grind, use it to sharpen your wits. Nature is amazing; who would have thought of growing a fly swatter on the rear end of a cow. Excessive speed was the principal cause of traffic accidents in 1954. Next Wednesday, July 13th is the date for McHenry Country Club's annual "Hookey Day". On this day the course is closed to the public and lady members. This is the day the men members invite their guests and everything goes. To equity" and associate members, please obtain tickets thru the games committee. pro shop, and the club manager. Your reporter enjoyed nine holes of golf Sunday playing yrith Cy Wagner, former golf pro at Tam-O'Shanter and his golf pro buddie Chick Stemka. Cy now operates a golf school on Xhe north side of Chicago. On the eighth tee, 191 yds. to the green, Hal Vaupell watched Jim Glormey hit his first ball out of bounds in the creek. After hitting his second shot, Hal lost sight of Jim's ball and asked where it went. Jim replied "It rolled in the hole". He didn't believe him until he saw it for himself. Thats getting par 3 the hard way. Ask John Varese, he knows. At' Chapel Hill golf club Pete Weingart won. the men's twilite league with a 46-8-38 low net. In a terrific tag match, the Japanese team of Mitsu Arakawa and the Great Yamato will tangle with Len Rossi, of New- York and Billy Goelz, of Fox Lake. The Japanese grapplers like to mix jiu jitsu and judo style wrestling with their catchas- catch can maneuvers and this situation may befuddle Rossi and Goelz.
