The four were making their first visit to a circus, the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey, in Soldier Field and they were awed by the many sights. Diane Kotalik sterns mojsjp interested in 'he funny-man than the actual circus but her brothers, Tom an% Gary Van Landuyt, stand breathlessly as "Blinko", the clown, points out the lion act. Dick Van Landuyt opens his eyes in wonder as these are the first live lions he had ever seen. Troop 164 The Boy Scouts of Troop 164 came up with a very good idea which took first place in the comic class for the Marine Day pni-ade. They worked like little beavers f"r six hours on Saturday to make their float. It was made of ' : ope paper. In the front of the car was white paper with the uords "Sponsored by the Moose." On the side of the car it read "A Scout is clean." which is the eleventh point of the Scout law. The streamers were of red, white and blue. The paper flowers were made by the Boy Scouts and strung around the car. The float had a barber chair. Three Scouts were1 on the float. Bill Struwe was the customer, Lance McGregor was the barber and Allen Burkes Was the next c u s t o m e r . . . . This was the climax -- yes - Troop 164 Won first prize. Then the boys joined the rest of the troop to make money selling popcorn and peanuts and the Marine Day programs. Daily Mass: 8:00 a.m. high mass. DRIVE SAFELY • , The McHenry County Firemen's association with 450 volunteers and membership in twenty-three towns, cities and villages in McHenry, Kane and Boone counties, is directly responsible for thousands of people going to bed every night without a thought or cpre as far as fire is concerned. They know that in case of fire these volunteer departments have the best equipment and knowledge possible to protect homes and property. Over a period of years they have saved over one million dollars worth of property and many lives for their various communities. Having, at heart the welfare of all communities in which 'they live, they are Concerned about another great enemy of thite great country of ours, loss of life by automobile accidents. The greatest invention of man is the automobile. It has done more for us than anything that has ever been made by man. We have politely misused our best machine by causing a loss of 35,000 to 40,000 lives a year. Thusv our best machine has also turned out to be our worst enemy. Therefore, the McHenry County Firemen's association wants to! go on record with the following! resolution: "That people can! drive automobiles safely if they! only use the good brain that God j gave them." You positively can | drive an automobile safely if you j visualize your accidents before j j they happen. Thank the Lord that! | the great majority of automobile, drivers do drive safely. I Remember, you hot-rod drivers.! ; that it takes move education to, drive a racing car than just a j , plain automobile. Don't use a i public road for a race track for j a hot-rod or any other kind of a car. if you youngsters will only stop and think before driving a car that you will drive safely, you can drive safely. Safe driving is not difficult if you will only think about it before you step on the starter. You have been taught to drive safely so why not think about it every time you take out the car and prove, to everyone that you can drive safely? You may not only save your own life, but also the lives of others. The McHenry County -Firemen's association also resolves that it will help any law enforcing 'body or highway patrol office** in their respective ~ communities to eliminate and control traffic, accidents and other traffic problems. Therefore, this resolution by the association. These volunteers have answered many fire calls on the highways and found burned bodies in automobile accidents. About 99 per cent of these accidents rould have been avoided, as most of them were due to bad driving on one side or another. This is one of the duties that the volunteers do not enjoy. Therfefore the McHenry County Fireipen's association asks you very kindly to drive that car safely and if everyone would do that, thousands of lives could be saved every year.
