With deep regret we see Dick resign because we are positive his place will be very hard to fill. He has handled it efficiently for the past two years. We wish to thank him for his many, many hours of work put into the village in helping to better our community. Accident Last week when Lakemoor was the scene of a tragic accident* to the two Pogany children and Chipper CynOwa, John Foute, Sr., was right on the spot to drive the boys to McHenry and then to the Woodstock hospital. All three boys were so seriously burned that there will have to be skin grafting operations in happy returns of the day to all of you. , LIA Last Saturday night the L.I.A. held a very successful beach party on the small beach. At •their meeting, it was voted that the club donate $25 to the fund for the children who were burned. The date of the annual whoopee party was voted to be the Saturday before Valentine's day in February. Games were played and "fun" .prizes awarded to the winners. Judy and Larry Cammarrata were so kind to play their accordions for all of us to' sing. Dance music was from the; Karnin and Clarke home and dancing }ook place on their patio. On Wednesday, Aug. 10, Mr. and Mrs. <Alen drove Mrs, Seyfferth to Racine, Wis., to visit Mrs. -Seyfferth's brother, who been ill and who was to celebrate his seventieth birthday. When she arrived at the hospital she was informed that her Brother, Albert Mentch, had passed away just fifteen minutes previously. This was quite a shock to Mrs. Seyfferth and we extend our sympathy to her at this time. The funeral was Saturday, Aug. 13, from St. Lucy's church, where Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mentch were married in 1907. Combined Meeting Last Tuesday evening the auxiliary and fire department met in a combined meeting to air out differences which have been cropping up in the last few months. It was a very pleasant meeting, as well as informative. The fire board was willing to answer any questions put to them. For the many people who have wondered what the profit was on the carjH^r this year, it was $1346.82, out of which standing bills were paid, leaving a balance of approximately $900 left to work with toward the completion of the fire house. It was also •brought out at this meeting that profit from affairs operated by the firemen will go for fire equipment. They believe that in the past few years everything they have worked for with exception of a few hundred dollars has been for the building proper and since they are working as firemen they also need equipment to become an active recognized department. They will co- j operate with " any organization: running any affair for proceeds to go to the completion of the building and will also aid in doing the work to complete the building. They also expect workers besides firemen to help complete the building, 'we all wish to use the building and should therefore help in its completion. It was also decided to hold a sauerkraut and frankfurt dinner on Sept. 24, proceeds of which will go toward the building fund. Further details will follow in future colly out of danger. The parents of all the children are so very grate ful to everyone who has been so kind to them this past week and to all who have offered tjieir blood to the Cynowa family. For the benefit of these children and to help defray the expenses to come, there is a collection started at Wally's Oasis and also in the Chuck Wagon in Lakemoor. Any donations will be appreciated. Come on, folks, we lend a hand for all other collections so let's dig in for children of our own who need us now. Remember to send the kids cards to cheer them in their many painful hours in the hospital. We hope and pray their recovery will be speedy. Birthdays Though this past week has been a sad one for the Cynowas, it was also one of birthdays in their family. Elsie, Larry and Ray, Sr., all had birthdays this past week. Steph Szaren, although she sure doesn't show it, also had a birthday on Tuesday. Mrs. Henry Hoppert has a birthday this Thursday also. Y., is visiting her fathei*\^ John Benson, of Fernwood subdivision, McHenry. Mrs. Landt is area editor for the Villager, a newspaper serving Westchester county. She -has written biographical sketches of such persons as the late Jacob Lasser, author of "Your Income Tax", Bob (Howdy Doody) Smith of radio and TV, Henry Wallace, former vice-president " of the United States, and many other well known personalities. Her father, who retired after twenty yearsf service with the Chicago police department, has been a summer resident of Fernwood since 1926 and a permanent resident for the past thirteen years. Recently resigning his post as deputy sheriff of McHenry county for twenty years, Mr. Benson also served as game warden for the Oak Mount Hunting club for three years. A veteran of the Spanish-American war, he •served in Cuba and Puerto Rica,..; He celebrated his eighty-first birthday on July 4. • Nine blue ribbons were awarded to two McHenry woman, residents of Fernwood subdivision, at the Lake county fair in Wauconda on July 28.
