r,. September 29, 1955 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Ntol A pair of L-shaped pieces of paper or light cardboard which yon can move about on your snapshot to "frame" various areas is a big help in determining just what is the best picture. You Can Get Closer to Your Subject After the Picture's Taken If you ever find among your snapshots one in which your primary subject doesn't stand out as much as you'd like ... if you are wishing you'd have moved in a little closer with your camera, stop the wishful thinking because the situation can still be remedied. This remedy has a name. It's called cropping and enlarging. That's because you "crop away" all of the picture that you don't want, and enlarge the part that's left. It's a regular practice among professional photographers and amateurs who do their own darkroom work. We know people who just never seem to make a print of a whole negative. Thus, they have a chance to improve their composition after the picture is taken. But so does everyone--whether you do your own7printing or not. Your photofinisher can do it for you. All you need do is select the square or rectangular area of the snapshot that you'd like enlarged. Mark it on the print (use grease pencil if you want to save the snapshot) and take it, with your negative, to your photofinisher. It's ax good idea to consult him about the size of your enlargements, because it will depend on the quality of your negative. These enlargements will cost you a little. more than if you were having an enlargement made of the full negative, but they are still inexpensive and so very worthwhile. --John Van Guilder Johnsburg News By BSitb Betty Hetterraann with a 428 series and Hettermann'e high - scorer was Vera Herdrich with a 435 series. Good .'News This Week What iitem of interest would be more fitting to start out this week's column than the results of last Sunday's ball game? The Johnsburg Tigers trounced the Crystal Lake Merchants at their own diamond to win the play-offs like a breeze. There has been some real ball playing going on in this town this past season. Congratulations to the Hettermann's Tavern team, under the fine management of Wally Smith, and the Johnsburg Tigers, under the expert management of Joe Frett, for bringing both the championships to our town this year. STATION SERVICE" The use of two new escalators, which went into service for the first time at 11a.m. last Monday, benefits many of the 95,000 persons who pass through the North Western station daily. Part of an over-all modernization -program for the station, the escalators are located at the east end of the train concourse leading to the Canal street entrance. The twin electrically-powered stairs use less than half of the area of tne large siaircase which they replace, yet have a combined cajpacity for more than 16,000 persons pfer-hour- DR.
