Against the Sharon Panthers last week, the big boys from Boone county held them to a tie, 24 all. This boy Steve Mikrut- seems to be the fellow to watch on the Capron Viking fquad. He scored twice against "5e Sharon Panthers last week and against the Green Giants •from Hebron he scored and was a real standout on defensive play. The Rockets also have some pretty gooff boys so we expect a great game, so just drop everything and don't ,miss this one. It seems sports' writers everywhere •always are making predictions for their conference schools, so this week we will try our luck at the guessing game. Richmond 27, North Boone 20 Clinton 32, Hebron 27 Williams Bay 25, Genoa City 19 College Hi 18, Sharon 35 Palmyra 28, Darien 12 Cross Country Team Wins The- first meet of the season for the Rockets was a successful one. The meet was held at Greeley field and the boys edged the McHenry Warriors by 3 points. In cross country, the low score team is the victor. Buddy Jarrett and Don Fout are two of the best harriers in the county and probably would give a good account of them- • selves in a state meet. Bud came ig first and Don came in second against the Warriors and John Fopenhagen came in fourth. This meet was held Tuesday afterroon, Sept. 20. When scoring in a cross country meet, you take the first five places for each team and total them up and that gives you the team score, such as one point for first place, two for second^ three for fourth, etc. Lose 24-37 to (Crystal Lake The Rocket harriers lost to. Crystal Lake Tigers Thursday of last week, but in doing so we saw one of the finest runs for first position anybody could ever ask for. Buddy jarrett proved once again in the same week that he is a top runner. Butf took the lead right from the start apd set a rapid pace. Right behind him was the "county * champ from last season, Wasberg, who beat out Jarrett in the county meet last season by eight-tenths of a socend. When the teams left Greeley fieldi and started their cross country tour, winding up through the roughs and fairways of Hunter Golf club and over to the 18th tee and around the bushes and back to Greeley field. Jarrett and Wasberg were still yards apart. Just as the runners entered Greeley field, Wasberg put on a burst of speed and Jarrett sa.w him coming so Budi really started to sprint. When they came around the football field and started down the straightaway, they Were just a couple of feet apart, but then Jarrett, gave it everything he had and ^ went across the finish line seven yards ahead of Wasberg, the county champion. Bud had an unbelieveable time of 9:25. For 1 and eight-tenths miles that is excellent time. Don Fout came in third: with good time but from then on it was Tigers as far as you could see so the race was lost from the third position back. Spectators are welcome at these meets, and there, is no charge. More people should be out to see these boys run. They really are tired at the end of the trail and would appreciate a little support.
