Since 1947 this annual banquet has been a notable event in the life of the community. By honoring the players Kiwanis has sought to animate their motto, "We Build." It is not only in a spirit of rewarding the players that this banquet is given. It is ar^ expression of appreciation to the coaches and all the faculty members, for their fine cooperation. The importance of the enthusiastic support of the entire student body cannot be minimized. Without capable coaches to develop their skill, and understanding teachers to'mold their personalities, the team could not exist. Without ability they could not win; without courage they could not endure defeat, without grace they could not accept victory. Victory on the field should not be the sole aim of the players or of those "behind the scene". Good sportsmanship and enjoyment of the game for its own sake is also important. Victory is sweet, of course, but it carries with it great responsibilities; the responsibility of becoming the idol and the model of those who follow the same path. A responsibility also to the school and the community to set a pattern of behavior, which is always above reproach. To the one outstanding player of the season, Kiwanis pays special tribute by adding his name to the Kiwanis Football Trophy. This player was not chosen by the Kiwanis Club nor by the coaches or faculty, but by the.members of his team. They have judged him not only for his prowess on the field, but also for the many qualities so necessary to him in meeting the exigencies of his adult life. v To the cheerleaders, too, .who in a great measure, fumiak-inspiration to the team and create enthusiasm among the spectators, Kiwanis pays tribute. By actively supporting this program the many organizational groups as well as the business and professional people in our community are helping Kiwanis to carry out the meaning of the club's motto--"We Build."
