1953 THE MCHENRT PLAINDEALER CRIME REPORTER TO SPEAK AT MEN'S FELLOWSHIP DINNER •^Next Wednesday evening, Nov. ^30, at 7 p.m., a men's dinner meeting will be held at the Community Methodist church, at Which top crime reporter Edmund J. Rooney will speak. Mr. Rooney is on the staff of the Chicago Daily News and is durrently assigned to the tragic ottse of the three murdered Chif ago youths. He recently covered he Perfect Circle corporation Strike in New Castle, Ind. His talk to the Men's Fellowship will be on the subject, "What Can We Do AJbout Juvenile Delinquency?" Journalist Rooney is the son of a retired Chicago policeman and his family has had members on the Chicago police force since 1881.. He was educated ai St. Rita high school and Loyola and DePaul universities. During World War n Rooney was a correspondent in Rome, Italy, for the Army daily newspaper, Stars and Stripes. After /serving with the City News Bur- •5am of Chicago for a year and a half, he joined the Daily News in 1952. For the last three years he has covered the major crimes in this are p. and -lias become one of the top crime reporters in the country. All men are welcome to this dinner meeting. SCHOOLS RECEIVE LARGE SHARE OF TAX DISTRIBUTION Schocfts in McHenry county once again received the largest share of the final distribution of 1954 taxes made last week by Treasurer Vernon W. Kays. The amount for all purposes totalled $1,377,527.84, bringing the total for the year to $5,400,202.84. Distribution was as follows: High schools, $259408.14; district schools, $>366,717.58; consolidated schools, $164,964.18. Among other taxing bodies, these- received the following: Townships, $39,922.53;, road and bridge outside corporations, $44,- 899.17; permanent hard roads, $63,287.31; bonds, $10,043.38; road and bridge inside corporations, $13/766.82; corporations, $89,211- .52; fire protection districts, $25,092.71; park districts, $8,279- .05; libraries, $1,634; dog tax, $1,204; general fund, $51,410.33. Earning® of the office were reported at $172,542.71. Buy U.S. Savings Bonds CHARLES E. JECKS. AMONG OLDEST RESIDENTS DIES One of the township's oldest and best liked residents, Charles E. Jecks, 91, died Sunday, Nov. 20, in Memorial hospital. The deceased was born in this •township on Sept. 20, 1864, on Rt. 120, west of McHenry, a son of Isaac Jecks, and farmed iji the Qstend community most of his life. He was retired and lived about two miles west of the city at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie, in 1935. They had no children. Only several nieces and nephews survive. The body rested at the Peter M- Justen funeral home until Tuesday afternoon, when services were held at 1:30 o'clock, with Rev. J. Elliott Corbett of the Community- Methodist church officiating. Burial was in Ostend cemetery.
