Poplar Grove was the opposing team. Richmond lost one game and won one game. The cheerleaders did quite well. The seventh and eighth grades are planning to have a play, sing songs and play games at their Christmas party. They drew names for Christmas gifts. \ The upper grades are enjoying the new maps very much. They have been ice skating a couple of times for supervised recess.,, All of the reading classes are enjoying the new readers which .they received at the beginning of school. The various rooms look very festive as the children add decorations from day to day. The dec- • orations in the reading room were made by the second grade. School closes tomorrow for the holidays and reopens Jan. 3. Bach room will have a party tomorrow afternoon, with refreshments served by the room jnothers. We have heard rumors that jolly old St. Nick, himself, will be on hand for the party. Mrs. Reith, the reading teacher, spent the weekend of Dec. 3 in Chicago visiting friends. She saw a play and. the decorated trees at the Museum of Science and Industry. There, too, she" saw a play depicting Christmas customs in^Germany, given by, LiUther high school of Chicago. The third graders are working on the play "Scrooge and the Christmas Fairy." The first grade hopes Santa will come Friday afternoon t.o see them. They have been busy getting ready for him. Each child will bring a gift for exchange. Two new girl pupils have enrolled in first grade. Aleta TK^hite came from Greenwood and Terry Stochl came from Downers Grove. Now there are fourteen boys and nine girls in first grade. News of Frank Landry Frank Landry, former resident of Richmond, has been promoted tq the detective division of the Lake Charlies, La., police force. Detective Landry, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs, L. A- Landry, formerly of Richmphd, and now of Woodstock, has Been in the policp department in Lake Charles for over five years. meeting of the Elinois Synod in Chicago. 1 Tomorrow evening the Brotherhood will meet at the church and help to put things in shape for the Christmas serviced. Saturday morning the children of the Lutheran church will meet to rehearse for the Christinas program. Sunday evening at 7:30 the children of the Sunday church school will present the Christmas program. Each child will bring a gift for a child at Nachusa Children's home. Last Sunday the children of the Community church brought Christmas gifts for needjr children. These gifts will be sent tk> the City Missionary society, for distribution. &• Yesterday was the annual Christmas party for the Women's Council of the Community churcn. Tonight is the pot-luck supper at the church. An- evening of record music is planned. ' Sunday afternoon is the annual. Christmas vesper service at • th a Community church. The children will take part in the service. 'Monday evening the Junior Youth Fellowship will have a Christmas party at the Community church. Did you ever wonder who it was made sure the choir vestments for the junior choir at the Community chUroh were clean, white and presentable for the vesper service? Just look at them next Sunday. Myra Speaker was the good fairy who "washed and Ironed all thirty-three of the white robes. Would you like the jqb? Makes me "shiver to think of it. Visitor at Parsonage Rev. Noyce's brother from Denver, Colo., was a guest at the parsonage last weekend. He was attending a convention in Atlantic City, N.J., and cpe to Richmond on his way home, The. Noyces took him to the airport Sunday evening. Mrs. Bess Elfers, formerly of Richmond, is the paternal grandmother of the new little girl.
