At the January meeting of the American Legion auxiliary, quite a lot of business was disposed of quickly. The unit members then unanimously elected Clara McAndrews to fill the vacancy. Mrs. Homo was unanimously elected to Clara's office of chaplain, which she was required to vacate in order to become vicepresident. The membership dinner will be held on Feb. 4 at °7 p.m. at the Legion home. Mrs. stueben announced that 10-year membership pins will be awarded to those eligible at this dinner. Members, husbands are invited to join the ladies after dinner. Mrs. Warnes entertained at the January meeting with a short movie entitled "Invitation to Beauty.' Julia Hecht, legislative and civil defense chairman, read a letter from department heac^mafr ters urging members and tneir friends to write or wire their senators to vote against any letting down of immigration bars. Our senators are Dirksen and Douglas. It was voted to join with other civic organizations in buying a hearing aid for- a needy school child. White, for two terms sheriff of Ogle county and for two terms a member of the lower house in the Illinois legislature, is announcing his campaign as a candidate for State Representative on the Republican ticket, subject to the primaries April 10. The district, now the 32nd, is composed of Ogle, De- Kalb, Boone and McHenry counties; taking the place of the old district of fjgle and Winnebago counties. Sbp At Home One-Day Community Fund Drive Planned By Channel 11 March 11 Plans for a one-day community fund drive for WTTW, the new educational television station on Channel li, have <been announced by Edward L. Ryeraon, president of the Chicago Educational Teleyision association, the npn-profit corporation sponsoring the station. The drive will be held in more than 300 Chicago area communities on Sunday, March 11, Mr. Ryerson said. Co-chairmen of the community campaign are Mrs. Rpbert B3. Meany, past president of the Chicago region, Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers, and George Sisler, vice-president of the First National Bank of Chicago. Albert D. Farwell, senior partner of Farwell, Chapman and Company, is serving as general chairman of the fund-raising efforts for Channel 11, which include men's and women's special gifts divisions and a corporation division. Goal in the campaign is $|>22,- 000 to Underwrite WTTWs operating expenses through the spring of 1957. A_ total of $175,- 000 already has; been raised toward that goal by special gifts and corporation divisions, Mr. Ryerson disclosed. "We have met with a most encouraging interest and willingness to work on the part of everyone contacted thus far for the March 11 drive," Mr. Ryerson pointed out. "We 'expect to hp.ve thousands of Channel 11 viewers .calling on their neighbors for funds that day." Mr. Ryerson added that many unsolicited contributions have been sent to the station since it began telecasting in September. WTTW now telecasts from 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday from studios in the east wing of the Museum of Science and Industry. In addition, a seventeen- week series of special Sunday telecasts was launched Sunday, Jan. 8, by the Chicago Sunday Evening club. . Plans are being,) discussed with the board of education lor inschool telecasts by next fall, Mr, Ryerson said.
