Thursday, February 2,1958 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER PTA Members See Sports Exhibition • Last Thursday evening; mem- 'rs and friends of the McHenry Community P.T.A. met in the high school gymnasium as the program for the evening was a sports exhibition. A short -business meeting was held, presided over by John Moss, vice-presiderit. Mr. Moss called on Mrs. Vale Adams, safety chairman, who urged parents to teach their children the safety l^les for walking and crossing streets. Everyone received a printed guide on safe walking to read to their children. Mrs. Peter Fischer gave a health report and told how many children had been weighed and measured this year and how many had been given their ^second Salk polio shot. A reminder was given by Mrs. Francke of the next parent education meeting, which is to be Feb. 9. All are urged fco attend. • It was announced by Mrs. Elmer Antonson that there are now 512 members in" the P.T.A. and anyone wishing to join may content her. Mr. Moss introduced Elliott Wheeland, who has taught wrest- ,Uvg in McHenry for six years. Sneets were passed out explaining the scoring system for high school competition. Mr. Wheeland then introduced the twelve boys, who gave a very interesting demonstration of the various holds in wrestling. He stated that real skill was required and that the boys practiced every night. Next, Miss Dorothy Drakeford, ffHs* physical education teacher, was introduced. She announced that the junior and senior girls would play off their all-star volleyball g*ame and named the players. There was a great deal of ^excitement as the game went into over-time, with the juniors victors by a score of 22 to 21. Those in attendance were most enthusiastic over the interesting program. Heart Fund Committee Plans February 19 Drive A committee meeting and luncheon of the Wonder Lake heart fund committee was held at the home of Mrs. James W. Ensminger this week for the purpose of organizing the first heart And drive, to be held Feb. 19 in wonder Lake and Ringwood. The chairman of Wonder Lake is Mrs. John Gillis and of Ringwood, Mrs. Paul Walkington. Cochairmen are Mrs. James Bell, Mrs. Russell Spuehr and Mrs. James Ensminger. CARD OF THANKS I would like to thank all the friends and neighbors for flowers, cards and prayers during the time I was confined to the hospital. NEW DAUGHTER Mr. and Mrs. Walter Para of Lakemoor are happy to have received final adoption papers for the pretty little lady who joined their household recently, Barbara Ann Para. Keating ave., Chicago, recently was assigned to Company B of the 8th Regiment in the 1st Infantry division at Fort Riley, Kas. The "Big Red One" division returned to the U.S. in October, 1955, after thirteen years overseas. Pvt. Hansen, son of Henry Hansen, Route 3, McHeriry, entered the Army in August, 1955, and completed basic draining at Fort Carson, Colo. CHURCH SERVICES The newly formed St. Paul's Episcopal Mission church is holding services each Sunday morning at 10:30 o'clock in the kindergarten building on Waukegan street.
