Wading through the atack. this fine, sunny morning our .heart was gladdened by a couple of letters showing real interest in pur welfare. The first one asked how we would like to learn the secret of feeling tip-top all the time. They wouldn't reveal all, but for a cer-i tain fee a booklet would come our way. From then on our daily tasks would be lighter, our spirit gay and our troubles non-existant. Down the pack aways we found another from some nice fellow who doesn't even know us, but is willing to tell us (for a fee) just how * to plan a wo try-free retirement. By golly, there are a lot of fine people in this world just waiting to help us unfortunate plodders with our problems. Prom another publication, we picked up the following definition: Old Age: That morning-after •. feeling, without the night before. game on the schedule. The regional tournament opens Tuesday at Crystal Lake. The Forester tourney opens Sunday. The grade school meet is set for Tuesday and Friday. Better mark your calendar. Texas Tycoon (rushing into airport terminal): "Gimme a ticket on the next plane." Ticket Agent: "Where to, Sir?" Texas Tycoon: "Anywhere, Son, anywhere. I've got business all over!" Enjoyed a nice letter from Tom Huemann, who is stationed down in Virginia while serving in Uncle Sam's Air Force. Tom is keeping in shape by playing basketball with the camp team. WARRIORS TRIM HARVARD m EKKTOtf Flye Seniors Play Lasi Home Game For McHenry High Harvard's basketball team came to town Tuesday night and put on a pretty good exhibition for one quarter, then burned out and fell victims to our Warriors 65 to 46. For starters, Coach Fulton used five seniors who played their last home game tor McHenry High. The cheerleaders lined up at the players' entrance and had the boys hop through a hoop into the spotlight. Beck, Pierce, Wissell, Schmitt and Huff made up the starting lineup. Bernie Schmitt scored ten baskets to lead the scoring in his final home/ game. Wissell came through with 16 points. McHenry held a 10-point half time lead thai went into a real slump in the third quarter to score only five points. N „• Jim Huemann put fire under his mates in the last quarter. Persistent " move it" caHs from the bench and a f&st break sent the Warriors way out in front in the final period. The boys should go all out to even the soore. Nobody tells us anything. How Were we to know that our "Bremda' would be interviewed for 15 minutes last Saturday morning by Van Sells on WKRS? Those who heard the interview tell us we would have been real proud as Van led our heroine through various phases of her many accomplishments. Time has really crept up on us and now it is time for the C.O.F 10th Annual State Basketball Tournament. The curtain goes up next Sunday at 1 o'clock in the MCHS gym. Frosh-S@phs Beat Lake Forest 52-30 The Cuda Colts bounced back to look like themselves as they trounced Lake Forest's J. V. basketball team 52 to 30 on our home floor Friday night. It was in the second quarter that the McHenry boys forged ahead, outscoring Lake Forest 19 to 9 and building up a lead that stood up wiLiout too much question as to the eventual winner. Denny Conway was the leading point man in the game, scoring a total of 20 with only two free throws in his total. Johnston was a standout for McHenry as he used his height to control rebounds and feed his mates. The local team was far out in front on field goals and added 10 free throws out of 20 chances while Lake Forest had 6 out of 16 This Forester tournament, with all the extra entertainment, is one of the biggest bargains in the sports world. A ticket for the entire tournament is your best bet. Hans Behnke turned in some bowling sheets from the -Palace that have a couple of scores that make you blink a second time. Only two points separated the teams in the final seconds and Jim Huemann's final two points came out of a wild scramble under Lake Forest's basket to add comfort to frazzled nerves in McHenry's cheering section. The Warriors dominated the pJay in the first half to gain a 34 to 22 lead. The visitors scored 6 points in the third period before the home team could get organized. At the end of this period of play, Lake Forest had outscored McHenry 15 to 7 and trailed by only 4 points. Ice fishing hasn't picked up too much in the past week. Some northerns are being caught.* One 5 pounder was caught at Meyer's Bay last Saturday. The bluegill fishing has been terrible. Nine out of ten that are caught are so small that you can hardly see them to tajce the hook out. Lake Geneva is still producing some perch but they are very fussy about biting. We were talking to a fellow Saturday and he told us that he had driven about 15 miles on Lake Geneva trying to find a place where the perch were biting. He finally found a si>ot, caught 20 as fast as l|e could pull them up and then quit because - nothing but little ones would bite after that. , Here are two little known facts from Charles Schaefer: The very old belief that a whale spouts water is a misconception. After it makes a dive, the whale comes to the surface o fthe water and exhales through his nasal openings in the top of his head. This column of warm, moist air immediately condences to water vapor upon contact with the surrounding cool atmosphere. Sage grouse are the largest of all grouse with the male sometimes weighing about eight pounds and reaching a length of over twenty-five inches. We hear that some big perch are being caught in Lake Mendota. It is said thalt, they run a little larger than they do in Lake Geneva. There is no limit on perch in Lake Mendota. There is only one drawback. The distance is great, especially if you hit a 'bad day for fishing.
