Thursday. May 17. 1956 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER McCullorn Lake News By Eve Leveaqoe New Dignity If The Memorial park located at the eastern corner of the beach is a place of serene beauty. The handsome, rose-colored rock has a flat surface on which will be mounted the dedication plaque. A graceful chain fence encloses the small bit of hallowed ground. Inside the enclosure is mounted the graceful flagpole on which our national colors will be flown. Beautiful evergreen bushes are "planted on either side of the stone. A gravel walk leads from the * entrance of the park right up to the rock itself. A great deal of careful planning and handwork went into this project bui the efforts were most rewarding. Ole Olsen, Ed Hammerstein, Sr., and Jr., Ben Gates, Art Stuhlfeier, Max Kolin, Nick Huff, Ken Ebey, Jr., Lorch and Willard Schultz labored for many hours on Sunday, but their efforts were most rewarding. Theresa Schultz, chairman for the Memorial Day parade, has asked for all Girl, Boy and Cub Scouts, Brownies, members of the V.F.W. and American Legion and any other veterans desiring to take part in the parade to Register. Will you please call 171 if you plan to march? The ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. May 30. In next week's column, a complete program and last minute instructions will be printed. Mrs. Betty Houck underwent surgery Monday morning at Memorial hospital. She has been a patient for twelve days and will be confined for a few days more. Our hopes are with her for a speedy recovery. Knowing her cheerful disposition, Betty is taking all this "in stride." Little Roberta Houck is doing a* fine job of tending house for her dad and brothers while mother is away. Accident Victims According to the latest report, Mrs. Evelyn Harrison and baby daughter, Linda, were released ^rom Sherman hospital, Elgin, last week. Mrs. Harrison has been confined to her bed. We pray that her recovery may be complete and soon. Cheerful Bobby Gates has become completely acclimated to his hospital surroundings. We heard that he has become the darling of all the nurses and aides. He has some sight in the ^njured eye and according to reports, there will be no permanent injury. With mother nature on his side, he. may be home for the weekend. His parents, Violet and Ben Gates, have suffered mental anguish since the accident and we fervently . hope their fears are all in the past! . Surgical Patients Mrs. Katherine Pardell was released from v Memorial hospital, Woodstock, i&st ~ = week. She /checked into a Chicago hospital for surgery in order to be closer to her children, who are living there. Hospitalized Leo Sales was rushed to Memorial hospital, Woodstock, last week because of a heart attack. Complete rest fo^ a few weeks should put him. back in good condition ana these are our prayers for Leo. A "sunshine shower" of cards will do much to help him pass the time. Tribute to Mom The following is an original poem '-dedicated to Bernice Bjork by her 9-year-old daughter, Diane. We print it as a tribute to mothers everywhere. "Mother, mother is so kind and dear, aiways kind and loving, > and oh so very dear. She's always doing favors, and always helping out; she's a very wonderful mother, there certainly is no doubt." In the Limelight --The Jim Pokorneys of Maple Hill drive are really in the news this week. It is with a great deal of- regret that we bid a fond farewell to this handsome couple and their cute little son. Their home is sold and the PokoAieys will be leaving for California soon, where they will take up permanent residence. They left our shores on Tuesday. Last Monday night, Jim took his lovely Helen to see "Teahouse of the August Moon," which they thoroughly epjoyed. Jerry Doran played hostess tp Helen, Jim and Bobby on Thursday night for a farewell dinner, which was consumed with ^relish by the combined forces of the Dorans and Pokorneys. In the next article, you will meet the new residents of their home. Hearty Welcome To Lillian and Mark Ringelstetter of Columbus, Wis., and their 4-year-old "son. Tommy. Mrs. Ringelstetter is a former school teacher and hopes to resume her career when household tasks permit. Lillteuf and Mark plan to enlarge their family in September, which should please Tommy very much. Adding a Room? Or planning a new home in the village, you must obtain a building permit. John Boyle, as building commissioner, must be contacted for any changes in the physical structure or appearance of your dwelling. See him or call 715 ror an appointment. This is a village ordinance. Caught in the Act Of speeding, that is. The following received tickets and were fined by Judge Howe: Stanley J. Steadman and Elmer M. Schneider of Woodstock, Daniel Green of McHenry and Alma Comeskey of Wonder Lake. Artists of Legerdemain Richard and Raymond Polka. Maty and Herman Langerbeck's grandsons, demonstrated their talents at Nativity Lutheran church, Wonder Lake, last Monday night. The young lads, age 14 and 11, performed sleight-ofhand ^tricks that would have done jubtice to the great Houdini. The boys have put in many hours of practice perfecting their skill and we prognosticate a brilliant future for them. Child Bride Your reporter slipped slightly in reporting the facts last week. According to our column, attractive Marion Mager was 5 when she was married! Since we hajdly think her parents would have allowed her to marry a mere lad of 8, we'd better correct the record. Their eleventh anniversary was April 24 instead of their twenty-fourth anniversary.
