Sponge cake is good as is, or it may be split, spread with jelly and top dusted with powdered sugar for a complete dessert. It may be served with fruit or fruit sauces. It may be spread frtth berries or peaches and served with whipped cream. There are dozens of ways one can use sponge cake. Here is one recipe you may like to try. It would be good to have on hand at any time. We have never frozen this cake but think it should freeze well. Fluffy Sponge Cake l'i cups cake flour 6 eggs m cups granulated sugar 6 tbsp. cold water 1 tsp. vanilla Vi tsp. baking powder ].4 tsp. salt Sift flour once before measuring and again after. Beat egg yolks until thick. Beat in sugar gradually. Blend in water and flour alternately. Beat the egg whites until almost stiff, add baking powder and salt and beat again until they hold a point. Fold the egg whitef into the egg yolk mixture. Pour into ungreased tube pan and bake 50 to 60 minutes in a slow oven -- 300 to 325 degrees. When done, invert pan till- cooled before removing cake. Mark Zimmerman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Zimmerman, climaxed a busy three years of effort when he received the Illinois State farmer degree. Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman travelled to Springfield and proudly witnessed their son receive his certificate arid pin. Mark, who is president of the local chapter, was an official delegate to the convention, as was Tom Blumhofst, vice-president. " • Oni Friday afternoon,, 'Mark was nominated for the office of Section 6 vice-president and missed being elected by only two votes! His rival, Dave Boerner of Woodstock, succeeds Dick Wissell in that position. Mark becomes second vice-president of the section. f . v* Dick's fine work as leader of Section 6 in; the past year led to his nomination to the office of state F.FiA. secretary-treasurer last Thursday at the state convention. It is a real honor and privilege to be considered for this office and it was only in the final vote Friday that he was 'defeated for office.
