When we arrived at our destination, we could see about half a dozen big trout. They were lying in the pool just waiting to be caught. We rigged our rod quietly and were just about to cast when out of the bushes came a couple of mallard hens and their ducklings. One nen turned around when she saw us. The other one make a take-off across the pool and the trout scattered. When they came back they would not bite on anything. We tried wet flies, dry flies and worms, but the tish wouldn't cooperate. Here is a tip that should be helpful to fishermen: Screw hooks in the bottom of your boat seat are a good thing on which to hang plugs and feathered lures. They dry out there and don't make your tackle box rusty. A few good sized striped bass are being caught in the river. Sand flies are still the best bet for live bait.
