NOTICE $5,000 SEPT. 1 GOAL OF CHILDREN'S HOME HAS BEEN REACHED Opening of new facilities at the Children's home of tlie county, located in Woodstock, has been made possible by the response of businesses, civic organizations and individuals, which has resulted in the .needed 55.000 collected by Sept. 1. This is half the $10,000 increase needed from county donors to finance the increased program, a provision by the board of directors, at Ihe time Harrison House was purchased. The board, at that time, said money 10 operate the new building must come from increased funds and not from current receipts. , Rev?" Eugene Maxwell, superintendent of the home, issued a cautious warning, however, saving that civic organizations and others should not "construe' the new: development to mean -the need for .contributions . no longer is pressing. .He added 1hat the county usually contributed $8,000 and this came with little systematic explanation .and with almost 110 background explanation on the role the home plays in McHenry county society. WG Business & Service Directory of Wonder Lake Open On Sundays 9 to 1 WONDER LAKE BUHLOEits SUPPLY HEARTS FOR THE YOUNG AND GAY The advent of summer ngeans many things to many different people but to parents with children away at boarding school or college it means only one thing: homecoming. One good way to celebrate this family getto ge th er a n d t o ^bring. the • . v h o l e group together at one time is through a friendly g a m/e of cards.; Hearts ha3 always been a popular family game and because of • its lively play seems to be increasing in popularity. Almost everybody has played Hearts > (or its variations) at one time or another but for those who are vague about the rules, a little brush-up may be necessary. From three to seven people may play Hearts using one deck of cards making it an ideal game for family groups. Object of the game, you'll recall, is to take tricks but avoid acquiring any Hearts, or the Queen of Spades, which count against you. After looking at his hand, each player selects any three -cards and passes them face down to the player at his right. The player must pass the three cards before looking at the three cards he receives from his left. Player at left of dealer leads first. Each player must follow suit, if able. If unable, he may discard any card. The player holding the Queen of Spades may discard it at his first opportunity. A trick is won by the highest card of the suit led. Winner of a trick leads to the next. After all cards have been played, each player looks through his trickpile to determine how many Hearts he was forced to take. Each player is charged with one point for every Heart and 13 points for the Queen of Spades. When any player reaches 50 or 100 points, the player with the lowest scofe is the winner. If you want to add more gaiety to your Hearts party, you might like to try Omnibus Hearts (thereby a player,, may score plus); Cancellation Hearts (which uses two packs of cards and may be played by as many as ten): or Domino Hearts, Complete rules for playing all of the Hearts games listed here may be obtained by sending a card or letter to Dept.
